Michael's MtG Spell thread (last update: Blockbuster 3/7/7)

Oops. I misread the spell. I thought it was strength, dexterity or constitution.

Still, I don't see why 8th level wouldn't be sufficient. No spells, plus lots of dropped spell slots for what is a very short duration animal buff spell... Most characters who would benefit from a +9 to those ability scores would already have substantial enhancement bonuses already. If a character already has +4 or +6 to those ability scores, they don't get much benefit from the spell unless the spell preparation dropped is of very high level. And every 8th level preparation dropped has a pretty high marginal cost.

And having it be the same level as the other spells would make things seem more tidy.

Does the Will save negate the fireball too?

I think this needs to be higher level.

Yes. If the target caster makes their will save no fireball occurs. Remember that multicolor spells tend to be a bit stronger than normal for their level since they are so hard to acquire.

@ Cheiro

Read Echoing Growth a bit more closely. What it allows you to do is at the beginning of each round, as a free action, you can buff yourself or an ally. Presumably you'd buff yourself the first round, then your party fighter, and so on. That's lotsa bonuses - even if it is for a brief period of time it can easily swing a battle.

So at round 1 the druid casts echoing growth. At the beginning of round 2 he drops, say, an 8th level prepared spell to enhance his physical stats, and wildshapes into his favorite form. At the beginning of round 3 he drops another 8th level prepared spell to enhance the fighter, and so on.

Is this right? I'm just not sure if the benefit is worth the cost of a 9th level prepared spell and several other prepared spells (typically of 7th to 9th level). I mean sure it is impressive, but casting those prepared spells would probably have been awfully impressive as well. Imagine the critters he could have summoned!

But I imagine you've done the calculations and playtesting. I'm just surprised Echoing Growth turns out to be too good to be an 8th level spell.

I'd rather start a level high and go down than a level low and go up.

With Cortex Bomb, wouldn't it make more sense for it do deal 1d6 damage per spell preperation removed? I'd also consider lifting the cap on number of spells that can be removed from the target... I can easily imagine a suffieciently powerful mage wiping a lesser mage's mind completely clear of magic, although the fireball damage should probably remain capped at 15.

If he really wants to do that feeblemind is gonna be more effective. This spell's primary boons is the damage and knowing what your foe prepared (which gives you insight into your foes ability). The removal of spell preparations is just gravy.

Ok, let's restart this.

Reverence
Abjuration (Ward) [White]
Level: (4), Clr 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Duration: 1 minute / level
Range: Personal
Effect: Creatures attempting to attack you
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: Yes

Creatures with half your hit dice or less can't attack you (If they try they lose their action for the round).

Anyone have any flavor text for this?
