2nd edition, tome of magic. All metamagic in that book was metamagic spells.

Planar Chaos dude -- D&D doesn't have the same division of effects as the card game does. For example, green has naturalize in the card game, while my D&D wheel still has no such effect for green, though white still gets disenchant. The reasons the spell effects are divided is that the two types of games work differently. Life gain, white's calling card, is MUCH MORE significant in an RPG than in the card game. Green's creature king status isn't as meaningful in the RPG so to compensate it gets to move into 3rd place in direct damage effects with the cold spells, and so on.the Jester said:Uhh, isn't Amnesia a blue card?
Spells with illegal targets are countered, just as in the card game. The expanded spell rules in the Dusk Player's Guide explains this once so I don't have to go back and re-explain it with every spell.Gerion of Mercadia said:... whoa ...
Eye of the Storm creates a powerful multifaceted maelstrom of magic that the resourceful may use out of combat and the daring or insane may use in combat. Each spell causes a cascade of previously cast magics to occur again with sometimes unpredictable results.
Whenever a spell with a duration of instantaneous is cast in the area of effect each other spell with a duration of instantaneous cast in the area of effect of eye of the storm is repeated.
- These two sentences are somewhat contradictory; but I get the general idea.
- What ensues appears quite unpredictable
What happens if a spell is "cast" if you will the second time around at an "invalid" target... say "counterspell" at a creature.
- And if you aren't careful -
If these spells had a target they affect the triggering spell's target unless that spell has no target in which case they affect their original target again.
... even if the original target is on another plane?
... And if both "the triggering spell has no target" and "the original target no longer exists" The spell is cast at what?
