Apparently the last windows update has a new feature - it turns off the extractor in WinXP. WTF??? The fun part is you can't turn it back on :( Well, guess I'm downloading Winzip. I just took another step towards putting Xandros Linux on this system :\

strange...I'm running the latest version of bill-ware (XP with all updates) and I can still use the native extractor. Did you install their 'Antispyware' Beta by chance?

I didn't see that happening on my system...will check it again.

I've heard of this happening to billy-ware email programs (outlook and outlook express) but not on a system-level. It is possible that your virus/spyware protection is also interacting with the recent change to the OS thus causing the problem?

Any one else have this problem?
I went to do updates but it wouldn't allow it as my automatic updates are disabled, purposfully I might add. I get a message telling me how to re-enable them to allow me to run windows updates. I haven't gone to sp2 yet. I turned off automatic updates right before this became one for this reason. I don't trust SP2 yet enough to put it on my system. I don't want to spend the little time I get at home on the pc fixing things and altering settings on things it has mucked up.

I just updated my new computer, yesterday. Installed everything MS had available as a Windows update. Absolutely no issues with .zip files.

I've had no issues with SP2 on my laptop. Been running it for quite some time now.

I've been running SP2 on both my home PC and work PC, and supporting 25 users with it as well. I had a few little glitches at work the week it came out, but they were all fixed by MS, and have not had any problems with SP2 since then.
