I just stumbled across this while reading the latest Ask John over at animenation.net
OS-tan ("-tan" being a cutesy variant of "-chan" which is the most familiar of the suffixes) is an unofficial cast of anime characters meant to represent Windows (and, as the cast grows, some other software), usually by poking fun at the various systems' bad points. For example, the character ME tries to be helpful, but always ends up tripping and crashing, irritating the people she wants to take care of. Not surprisingly, she wears an apron with a triangular yellow sign with an "!" on it. There's even a Flash animetion called Troubled Windows.
Just wanted to share this rather insightful bit of satire.
