Midichlorians

I heard that some people in England wrote in "Jedi" on their census forms when asked for their religion, so the government decided to create a checkbox for it on the next census, but that's not the same as a "Church of the living Force". Did somone really try to create an institution? Anyone on the other side of the pond care to enlighten me?

Did this happen before "Phantom Menace" came out or after? If before, maybe GL was afraid he was turning into another L. Ron Hubbard!

Well i'm on the other side of the pond so to speak and i've certainly never heard of any church of the Jedi or the like :) but the Census theory sounds likely as people put some strange things on thier census forms.

"Midichlorian" is clearly a thinly disguised reference to "Mitochondrion" which is an actual thing.

Mitochondria are tiny organelles that exist in large numbers in your cells. They do the work of "burning" fuels like glucose to change ADP (adenodiphosphate) into ATP (adenotriphosphate) which your other cellular functions run on.

It is theorized that they were, way back in the mists of organic history, their own creatures, which somehow learned to enter into a symbiotic relationship with the cellular ancestors of all life on earth. The reason for this is that they have their own genetic material.

I think, personally, that everyone is to some extent sensitive to the force. Clearly, a force adept can influence other people with it, so they must be affected by it. In this galaxy, life evolved with something very like mitochondria, but a little different. They don't generate ATP, they generate force energy, which is stored there for later use. Someone who has enough of them to use can become aware of them.

While off-topic, has anyone ever played Parasite Eve? Its a computer game in which 'magic' is a result of energy released from mitochondrion. Pretty interesting. When they started talking about midichlorians in Episode I, it was the first thing I thought of. Just food for thought.

The census thing is true and was going around the internet for a while a few years back - including here in New Zealand.

Anyway the general idea is that if yiou can get a certain number of people claiming Jedi on the census forms then the Government is legally obliged to include that option on future census forms. This of course serves to illustrate just how easily Census data can be subverted.

Of course there may have been a few 'True Jedi' out their running a great conspiracy!

I don't mind the census, but only if it gives the government a good idea on how to offer the citizens the best possible service. Besides, I don't it like if my government think they know what is best for us. We tax-paying citizens know what is best for us.

Of course, I wouldn't mind leaving certain questions blank with no consequence.

Man. That can't be right. Nothing that goes around the internet can be true....

Right?

Of course it's true. I heard it from a real live person, who heard it from a person, who read it on the internet.

So there.

Actually, it looks like it is true, at least according to the
BBC.
