Chapter 2 - Scene 1.3
Arunae smiles as the Wildlander speaks and then he nods, "Well, that is one of our goals after all... The more we help each other, the less able The Shadow is able to take advantage of the mistrust our races have for each other. It's hard to believe that human, dwarf and elf all fought together in the first and second ages. Our enemy has done well in dividing us."
In response to Evarus, Arunae nods, "Well, those who can cause the stone to glow have something innate that draws the magic of Aryth to them. Not all can actually learn, but we won't know until you try. The nice thing about this stone is that it can act as a target for spells as someone attempts to learn them. Someone attuned to magic can cast a spell into the stone, and the other person can 'feel' what they need to do to cast it themself. It only works for simpler spells, but since the spells are cast into the stone, the action isn't detectable by a Legate." Arunae moves over next to Evarus and seats himself, taking out the smooth, black stone and placing it in front of him. "The spell I'll cast often confuses an enemy for a short time, allowing an escape or better attack, depending on which is most prudent. He places his hands on the stone and almost instantly a dull purplish glow suffuses it. The glow remains when he withdraws his hands and he says, "Touch the stone, and try to look into it. It's hard to explain, but you'll feel what you need to do to cast the spell. It may not make sense at first, but we have some time tonight to work on it."
