Midnight: Shadow of the Gods - Chapter 1

OOC Note: Sorry guys for the lack of update. Familial issues have arisen which have kept me feeling pretty non-communicative over the weekend and first part of the week. Things are feeling better so I'll try to move this along tonight.

Chapter 2 - Scene 1.2

After the activity of the past couple of weeks, and especially the past evening, the journey settles into a relatively quiet affair at the start. Armigil manages the best at hunting this day, coming back with a couple of the large peasants that hide in the tall grass. He might have managed better, but Arunae's attempt to sneak up on another group after observing the Wildlander's first successful hunt, resulted merely in a couple of startled birds. The hearthstone, set into a packed and covered hole in the ground by Arunae, does a good job in cooking the meat.

Arunae muses to Armigil at some point:
"I can stick Orcs with arrows, though of course I'd prefer to be able to use magic more freely to fight. But wild animals are something else completely."

He later asks Evarus, "Would you like to try to learn a couple of simple spells, since you seem to have the talent within? You need to remember to use them carefully, probably more so than what I have. If there had been a Legate nearby, my spell I cast in that last battle would have been as strong a signal as a campfire would have been."

Danyd, after asking the question regarding the item that Masozi has, falls silent as he munches on food.

OOC Note:I'm assuming that anyone can jump into any conversation given that it's a relatively small group, and I'll be flexible with the 'watches'. ie, all conversations won't take place at the same time, so someone will be on watch if/when something else happens.

"Orcs are easier prey," Armigil remarks in response, his smile faint but remarkably visible, "because they do not have the senses of animals. I can teach someone of your skill to track and hunt, if you wish." His gaze strays toward Evarus a moment before continuing, "We can help each other more than we have, I think."

With more words uttered then than he has said all day, the Wildlander then excuses himself to find a place to clean up.

Evarus, in the process of snacking idly on whatever food is available and not tied down, blinks a couple of times at Arunae's question before answering. "Do you really think I can? I mean... I know there was that other time, but do you think that really means anything? I can try, but..." He glances around before finishing, quietly, "It probably won't work."

Chapter 2 - Scene 1.3

Arunae smiles as the Wildlander speaks and then he nods, "Well, that is one of our goals after all... The more we help each other, the less able The Shadow is able to take advantage of the mistrust our races have for each other. It's hard to believe that human, dwarf and elf all fought together in the first and second ages. Our enemy has done well in dividing us."

In response to Evarus, Arunae nods, "Well, those who can cause the stone to glow have something innate that draws the magic of Aryth to them. Not all can actually learn, but we won't know until you try. The nice thing about this stone is that it can act as a target for spells as someone attempts to learn them. Someone attuned to magic can cast a spell into the stone, and the other person can 'feel' what they need to do to cast it themself. It only works for simpler spells, but since the spells are cast into the stone, the action isn't detectable by a Legate." Arunae moves over next to Evarus and seats himself, taking out the smooth, black stone and placing it in front of him. "The spell I'll cast often confuses an enemy for a short time, allowing an escape or better attack, depending on which is most prudent. He places his hands on the stone and almost instantly a dull purplish glow suffuses it. The glow remains when he withdraws his hands and he says, "Touch the stone, and try to look into it. It's hard to explain, but you'll feel what you need to do to cast the spell. It may not make sense at first, but we have some time tonight to work on it."

Armigil isn't going to interfere with whatever the two are doing, magic-wise, but he observes in his quiet, ever-watchful manner.

OOC Note: Guys. Things are really hectic for me right now which is why I haven't been on the MUSH lately. A trip next week due to bad news in the family plus possible jury duty this week have led me to not having much free time (lots of work needing done). Want to ask a couple of questions though: Could someone nudge Masozi's character to take a look on here if she hasn't recently? And I don't know if Evarus needs more info for a response? In any event, we'll probably stick to 'low level RP' until after the following week as I can probably still reply even when I'm visiting family, and then pick up the pace again when I'm back.

OOC: I think that's where we all are, Robert. :(
