wait, so you do want them to ruin the game in 5e?If I didn't want control spells to "ruin" the game, I'd go play 4th Edition!

That's just how ttrpg fandom is these days. Children no longer obey their parents and everybody is writing a game.Isn't Mearls developing his own game these days? I'd take any statements about 5th edition being "ruined" with a grain of salt.

he is, he also left WotC, which means he can talk about these things much more openly. You will have to decide which of the two is the reason for him being more active now. I'd say he would not talk about and address things in his design that he does not consider problematic however.Isn't Mearls developing his own game these days? My opinion is a tad more nuanced than that. I think most of these issues are only problems for certain tables with certain types of players. If you happen to run into those players, you'll see them as problems, and if you don't, you won't. And there's no way to player-proof any RPG, so no matter what rules you come up with, there will always be some players who use them in ways that aren't fun for anyone else at the table. I would put down money that this will even be true of Mearls' own game, when he finishes it. As such, "5E is ruined" is being overdramatic at best. The "5E is fine crowd" and WotC glazers push back instinctively.
He never said "ruined". That was the OP's title.Isn't Mearls developing his own game these days? I'd take any statements about 5th edition being "ruined" with a grain of salt.

Ah the old "if you don't agree with me that this game is bad, you're a insert derogatory statement". There's enough social division and "us vs. them" in the world, can't we spare our hobby from it too?The "5E is fine crowd" and WotC glazers push back instinctively. Tghy dont believe peopke when they say XYZ can do this.
Until they see it in play.

No game is absolutely perfect. I won't deny that 5e has some problems. But my friends and I find that the good outweighs the bad. Or we make house rules to address what we cannot ignore.
