I was the only one of my gaming friends still DMing, and I was running AD&D 1e because we’d all given up on 2e and moved on to other things.

I was Old School Revival before it was cool.

Anyhow, my friend Erik told me about 3e and I was “naw”.

Then I played it with Ron’s group, because I moved. I was “wow”.

So I switched my forever email campaign to 3e (over objections) and I’ve DM’d 3e or 3.5e ever since.

Me and a few members of my gaming group picked up our PHBs at Gen Con. We were so psyched and we played 3.0 (later with some 3.5 stuff thrown in) for 16 years.

I was here, lurking, observing, waiting. I had just started a 2e campaign (homebrew) for our group, which I rapidly converted to 3e. Good times.

I messed around a bit with Basic when I was a kid but the first real ongoing game I joined was 2E in my early 20's. Shortly after 3E was released and my GM was pretty excited about it so I picked it up too. I remember going into my FLGS to get the Players Handbook and the owner remarking that he hadn't seen so many old D&D players come out of the woodwork in years.

We switched to 3E and ran a campaign, my GM dropped off to start a family and I picked up as GM. I've been playing ever since excepting a break after the release of 4E.

I started (D&D) with AD&D Second Edition in about 1991/92. When 3e launched, I was stationed at Ft. Lewis but living off-base with my brother and some friends. We bought the books on release day at Incredible Universe, a (mostly) computer store owned by Tandy. We started converting our mid-level Second Edition characters the same day and never looked back. Sadly, I haven't hardly played at all since 2013. I had a large lemonade from McDonald's that I forgot about and it dissolved the cup and ruined some character art my brother had drawn.

i got that first printing PHB, with the CD and the monsters in the back, and was running something almost right away.

Of course the character generator on the CD did not really work, and other complications would ensue, but I do remember being pleased with those first sessions.
