  • Formula editor? Yes (You'll need this for any/all of the below options - something like 1[W], 1d8, [STR], [melee], [close], [area], [range], [enhancement] - not exactly sure how granular to go...perhaps the [close], [area], etc. tags would be auto picked by the "type" of a power when created)
  • Custom Powers? Yes
  • Custom Items? Yes
  • Custom Feats? Yes
  • Custom Classes? Yes
  • Flags your character as "house ruled"? Yes
  • Save all the above to Campaign file? Yes

The custom powers alone will be worth it to not have to listen to people bitching about the Magic Missile changes ever again. Just re-write it the old way.

In order to do this you may need:

Feat wording cleanup: A feat like Two Weapon Fighting: " While holding a melee weapon in each hand, you gain a +1 bonus to damage rolls with your main weapon." could be reworded to include it's "real" requirements...something like "While holding a melee weapon in each hand, you gain a +1 bonus to damage rolls with your main weapon with any power that has the Weapon keyword and is either 'Melee' or 'Close' ". I'm not sure if this is intended, but it's the CB implementation. Interestingly, if this is correct, it means that for a character wielding 2 daggers you can print out a power like "Sly Flourish" which is either melee or ranged and it shows you getting the bonus for this in the "damage breakdown", but at the table you can use it at range and are probably getting +1 damage that you shouldn't get. Does this matter a lot???? Not really, but if you're going to do custom anything you have to have a framework that is consistent. You almost need a way to show two different stats for a power like that...one for melee and one for ranged since it has 2 uses.

Didn't they change the UI to support the DMG 3 monster stat blocks? I guess, when they had resources for the MB, that's something they were spent on. :)

I'm not a programmer, but judging by the time they spent to update to MM3 monster blocks (published on some DDI article months(?) before MM3) it does not look like too many resources.

They even didn't updated on the month before the actual monster blocks updated.

And what would be the reason for not including templates? People have been asking for it for a long long time.

Zero is hyperbolic, "low resources" is better.

Just hope they're not spending this manpower on the character visualizer...

I highly doubt this. The tool is useless outside of a bonus tool for the VTT, and I'm seriously doubting them ever doing the VTT.

I posted this on the WotC forums, but here's some things I'd like:

Originally posted on July 26, 2010.

  • Better options for Customization in the Character Builder. Perhaps methods for adding custom items, feats, powers, classes, the whole shebang. It'd be nice to be able to import third-party stuff, but also build your own and add it in. I'd also like to see support for more customization of WotC content. I'd like to be able to modify things at my whim for house-rules and such. If I want to change Magic Missile to attack AC, I simply go in and make a copy and change it. My PCs can import my campaign file and now the power does what I want. This could also be useful for "reflavoring" powers to have different keywords, etc...
  • Expand on the Monster Builder and add in Traps, Hazards, Skill Challenges, Companion Characters, Diseases, Poisons, etc... Maybe even add the function to create those custom items for the Character Builder and export it from Adventure Tools. So, I can create my custom magic item, send it to my PCs, who can then import it to the Character Builder and equip their characters with it.
  • A Mapping Tool with all of the released tiles. I'd like to be able to design custom maps and export it to a file that is easily printable to scale. Just being able to place it on my board and tape it down or something would be fine. Going further, the Mapping Tool could even have potential to build your own tiles and placeables (props).
