Merrill's Marauders

Good Wikipedia article on Merrill's Marauders, including their training.

I didn't realize this before, but they were reorganized as the 75th Infantry Regiment, which is why, in 1969, when the LRRP were renamed Rangers and consolidated into the 75th Infantry Regiment, the 75th was chosen. So Merrill's Marauders are the parent unit of the modern Rangers (along, of course, with the WWII Ranger Battalions).
