Millions donated to help save Enterprise

Still humanly selfish but not petty.

Hm. Being a booster for technological advancement that may well benefit all of humanity is being "humanly selfish". Interesting definition :)

However, the original star trek was cancelled and it was 30 years before TNG. Perhaps the cancellation of Enterprise will bode well in the future.

Actually, it was 20 years. Might want to have some of your facts straight when you enter a Trek debate, lest you appear less than properly prepared.

All I can add to this lively and cerebral debate is...

Oooooh, burn! ;)

But seriously - I'm in the position that I would certainly invest some cash to bring back or continue certain shows. Take Firefly, Farscape or Angel (and now Battlestar Galactica) for example: I would easily dump half my monthly paycheck (over a grand) to get another season of any of them. However, I wouldn't give that money to a charity at this point in my life. I'm too selfish. It's really that simple. If there was a magical switch that only I could press that would make the world a better place then I'd do it but things are rarely that simple or straightforward.

I guess that makes me a hedonist. So be it.

Considering the thread of argument seems to be about the three million dollar contribution by certain parties, I'll point out that they said that Star Trek was one of the reasons they were inspired to become pilots/whatever. I think this was stated on one of the sites doing the campaigning. I'd say that's a damned good reason. Myself? I sent some letters to executives (actually, I payed $32 for one of the site's owner's daughters to send 32 letters, since I don't have time or patience to do so myself). The reason I did so is because I like the actors and writing of Enterprise, and I find it an enjoyable show. I don't watch much other television.
