Mind Blank vs. True Sight

So just seeking confirmation here.

If I am invisible and mind blanked, neither see invisibility nor true sight can detect me, is that right?

Due to a variety of well-stated arguments which you will probably see posted on this topic, we do not allow Mind Blank to protect against See Invisibility. See Invisibility does not target you specifically. It allows an individual to see all invisible creatures or objects within a given cone-shaped range. Mind Blank protects you against scrying and divination magic that would specifically show your location. See Invisibility is not a divination that specifically shows location and neither is True Seeing (which simply allows a person to see all things as they truly are).

I would limit the protection of Mind Blank to divination spells that target you individually such as Discern Location, scrying, and other such types of divination magic that target you as an individual.

Non-detection is the more appropriate spell to defeat See Invisibility and True Seeing.

Our decision was that spell effects do not count as part of their target - they are a separate entity associated with them, not part of their gear... so in this particular case, the see Invisibility or True Seeing would be interacting with the invisibility effect rather than the person benefiting from it. You can see them!

Now what about True Strike? :)

Basically the answer is... up to you! :D

In my opinion neither See Invisibility nor True Seeing give any information (directly) about the subject and thus Mind Blank would not protect against them. These spells merely counteract other magical effects, the information gathering (i.e. getting the location of the invisible creature) is done via rather mundane means (your very own sight), not these spells.

The language involved is not clear. I can understand the logic behind ruling it either way, but from the point of view of balance I would not allow it. Mind Blank is already a very powerful spell.

Ooh, I had a feeling this one might be a can of worms!

I would love to hear more opinions, including that of Hypersmurf- I find that I rarely disagree with your reasoning, Hyp.

This issue is problematic for me; it hasn't come up yet but I both run and play in epic games, so it's only a matter of time.

And how does the balance test work on this one?

Share opinions and experiences, please! :)

I'm inclined to say that True Seeing has nothing to do with detecting or influencing emotions or thoughts, except for the Know Alignment effect of the 3E Divine version (which doesn't apply to 3.5 anyway).

On the other hand, I could be convinced that seeing the true form of a Shapechanged creature counts as information-gathering by a spell.

I allow mind blank to protect against true seeing, but not everyone in the group agrees that's the right decision. We just try to be consistent.
