Mind flayer tentacle arrangement?

The diamond just looks off to me.
I would think the positioning would have to be fixed though, I haven't read anything to suggest they can reshape themselves to reposition where their limbs emerge. Even giving the tentacles great flexibility, they would still emerge from the face in the same spots on any one illithid. Different individuals or sub-breeds (particularly if you use the ecology of them spawning out of implanted sentient humanoids) but not changing on individuals as the mood hits them (although specific magic and psionics could presumably reshape their flesh in such a way).
