Just found this browsing through the Wizards Chainmail boards:

GameHorizons posted

I guess the following:

4 Commons
3 Uncommons
1 Rare
NO Chase Figures in the first set.

Wait... I got that information from the brand manager when I spoke to him at the GAMA Trade Show.

New D&D Miniature game discussion on WotC boards

Don't know how accurate this is, but worth passing on.

EDIT: Jeremy Mueller (GameHorizons) has also repeated this information in another thread: D&D Mini discussion/WotC Boards

It looks more likely this is accurate.

Cheers!

"Chase" figures are ultra-rare figures, generally unique personas in MageKnight.

A normal player can collect the basic set without much trouble, but the "chase" figures are much harder to obtain. If in a case of boosters, you picked up 6 of each rare figure, you might only pick up 1 of the "chase"/ultrarare figures.

Cheers!

Are they called "chase" figures because everyone chases after them? Or because you are similar to Chevy Chase if you get really geared up over them?

j/k

Thanks for the info.

Cjoers!

Which in turn was influence by the "collectable" craze in comic books and hockey cards (baseball, down there I suppose) in the early 90s. These things are really just feedback loops, no sense pointing fingers at this stage.

so does any one besides me think it is silly to buy miniatures sight unseen? or to make it into a collectible card game with miniatures?

Mage Knight has been extremely successful with this formula. I'll be curious how Wizards does once again trying to shoehorn the Chainmail brand into a market established and dominated by another company.

ABSOLUTELY. I collect miniatures because I love them and want them as game aids. I will not be purchasing any of these if I cannot see first. Also, I am not interested in all in prepainted figures. In fact, my purchasing interest would be higher were they not painted.

Any chance some of the more common (less desirable to be collected) of the figures could be supplied unpainted? I would buy those.

Ah, but mass-combat with plastic figures isn't something that WizKids do.

Also, the WizKids figures aren't useful for D&D due to the base size.

Cheers!
