Mini's for large groups.

I have used troll and toad a couple times and bought sets of commons from them. About 70 cents per and a goodly number of most commons

Available at most game stores, Twilight Creations puts out roughly 25mm minis for their Zombies! games for super cheap, about $10 for one hundred in a bag. I would recommend that any GM should have a Bag O' Zombies, a Bag O' Babes (female zombies), and Bag O' Skeletons (they are equipped with spear and shield), and a Bag O' Dogs (zombie dogs). Some come in glow-in-the-dark form. If they seem too small, just glue em to pennies or some other bases to give them an additional (scaled) six or more inches of height (it also makes them a bit more stable).

Thanks for the info, I will look into these.

The desire for 'type consistent' sets is not an urgent concern, but it is a nagging one. I do have a means of filling the need for those encounter types, but that does not mean I would not want something superior.

In a perfect world, I would like to see WoTC (or a reasonable alt with mini's of a similar scale), sell packages of mini's as a set encounter.

ie: Orc Ambush: 6 Orc Minions, 4 Orc Soldiers, 4 Orc Archers, 1 Orc Commander and 1 Orc Shaman. Each minion, soldier, and archer having some potentially distinguishing characteristic.

I am sure that I could buy sufficient mini's individually, but bargain hunting on E-bay is a bit more of a hassle then I want to deal with.

Given that the PHH minis have already disappeared from the on line site and catalog, I'm beginning to suspect that non-random minis do NOT sell enough to be a viable product. Or, maybe that's just paranoia.

Either way, there are lots of online shops to buy the commons from for cheap, much cheaper than WotC could ever sell them.

Great find - I'll have to look into them. My 3.5 campaign that is hopefully climaxing next month after over 2 years had a zombie apocalypse scenario about 15 months ago in game (it was on an island as well)... luckily, the PCs managed to escape and then later teleported back to kill off 1,500 or so zombies by themselves.
