Mini's

Thanks Steel that is helpful. I will try to round those up. As I said I can pop a few mage knight figures off of bases, I actualy bought them because the store I shoped carried those but not the DND minis and I thought they could be used for DND, turns out the bases are just a little too big.

Buy a bag of Games Workshop bases (or any other for that fact) and glue the Mage Knights to it. Repaint if you wish.

Painting minis can be its own subhobby, but its well worth it.

I also like to paint the occasional miniature, and of course, you can't find everything you want in the DDM game (though ironically, I started with DDM because I could not find a metal mini for a character and got a plastic figure from DDM that fit)

I recommend it over the pre-painted D&D and MageKnight style miniatures, but if you're satisfied with them, more power to you!

Both have their advantages: Getting metal miniatures and painting themy ourself can be big fun, but on the other hand, not everyone is good at that (I don't use any of the advanced techniques, I usually only give them one flat coat of paint over the priming - no different colours for shades or highlights.) and it takes time, especially if you want lots of figures. Plus those plastic miniatures are simply less expansive (unless you want displacer beasts or beholders, of course ;-))

Alright, this is something that probibly has been asked a dozen times before and probibly won't be going away any time soon but....
I know of Reaper miniatures line that works well for DND, but are there any other makes of fantasy minautres that I could use for my standard DND game. yes I know WotC makes those random assorted collections that are fairly inexpensive. I would gravitate tward those if they weren't so random! I have a fairly hard time finding the mini's that I need. Some aren't even made.
Before I go and do something stupid I just thought I would ask what the rest of you are doing for mini's?
As of right now I am looking to buy mini's of Animals, largely Druid animal compainions and Familars, plus general animals for confrontaitons. Plus bulk number of skeletons (perferably in plastic form as to be cheaper). Up till now I have been using glass counter beads of differing colors but that when I have more than 6 monsters out it gets hard to tell, or when I have large or bigger monsters.
What I have thought about doing is buying for bulk monsters Warhammer plastic kits because they seem fairly cheap and can easily cover the job of makeing a drow army, skeleton force, orc throw aways, or what ever. But that is only my thoughts, like I said I would like you guys input, as I am on a mini's for cheap buget and don't want to be getting stuff I realy don't need/want.

Hey Hapless, have you seen or heard of Monstertiles? You can visit their website at WWW.MONSTERTILES.COM

They were at GenCon Indy this year passing out logo tiles and talking to folks. It sounds like what you are looking for. I hope it helps.

I ran into those guys and talked with them a little bit. Those tiles were cool. They said something about doing more than just monsters sometime pretty soon. Stuff like horses and familiars and npcs and such. I've been checking out their products and I'm thinking about getting some of those Orcs and maybe that Ogre. They look great.

Ok my 2 cents.
Good idea limited selection. Same problem as the DND mintatures though they are releasing new sets fairly rapid on that so that it makes up for it quickly, it seems. the monster tiles though do seem like a good alternitive to my glass beads.

If only I could bring myself to buy D&D minis. But I just can't make the step from metal minis to plastic ones  Also the fact that you never really know what is in the box makes it a bit hard to get the one mini you really need.

Most of the time I shop for cheap Ral Partha or Reaper minis on Ebay. Also we have a local game shop here that has a huge assortment of Warhammer and Confrontation minis. Though Confrontation minis I only buy to to either paint/display them or for important badass villains and NPCs.

I have a bunch of minis I'm selling individually. I still have a few of the "animal" minis left that others have already mentioned. The link to my list is in my sig.

Go buy yourself one or two small blocks of polymer clay (fimo, premo or kato, not sculpy III). Mold your own tiny familiars. Snake is easy! Cat or dog aren't hard (basically a ball for body with legs pulled out and rolled, head another ball with ears pinched out, a gentler pinch for the nose, and a couple fingernail nicks for eyes. Bake in your home oven. you can paint with acrylic paints if you like.

I make "bad guy" blobs out of clay, and write numbers on them with Sharpies. I've got a bunch of different colors, sizes and shapes. Works pretty well!
