Mirror of Scrying should look like....?

IIRC these ones have alienist flavor.

Herbert West, reanimator
The case of Charles Dexter Ward

Not in that collection, but it has the quintesential alienist, the best monolog given by an Alienist and why See Invisability and True Seeing are not always safe in a game influenced by Yog-Sothothery.
From Beyond

It is not pleasant to see a stout man suddenly grown thin, and it is even worse when the baggy skin becomes yellowed or grayed, the eyes sunken, circled, and uncannily glowing, the forehead veined and corrugated, and the hands tremulous and twitching. And if added to this there be a repellent unkemptness, a wild disorder of dress, a bushiness of dark hair white at the roots, and an unchecked growth of white beard on a face once clean-shaven, the cumulative effect is quite shocking...

"What do we know," he had said, "of the world and the universe about us? Our means of receiving impressions are absurdly few, and our notions of surrounding objects infinitely narrow. We see things only as we are constructed to see them, and can gain no idea of their absolute nature. With five feeble senses we pretend to comprehend the boundlessly complex cosmos, yet other beings with wider, stronger, or different range of senses might not only see very differently the things we see, but might see and study whole worlds of matter, energy, and life which lie close at hand yet can never be detected with the senses we have. I have always believed that such strange, inaccessible worlds exist at our very elbows, and now I believe I have found a way to break dawn the barriers.

Oh man, I am so reading that at the beginning of our next session... Thanks Frank. Yeah, I gotta start reading his stuff.

I would go with a beautiful mirror with a frame that looks like a tentacled thing with lots and lots of eyes. Simple but appropos.

That's what my original plan was, to a tee... but I'm kind of liking this melted ameobic twisted shape, made of different metals that looks... well... alien!

To mix it up a bit, you could go horizonal. A black-iron claw footed base holding up a membrane in which is pooled a thin film of softly keening pandemonic silver. The lip of the device is a band of tissue that coils around itself like a mobius strip, fashioned by a kaorti fleshsculptor. It would require a scroll or an intermediary for some of the materials. That particular casting of lesser planar binding might require some interesting negotiations.

A living, silver-skinned creature from some nightmare dimension, stretched out and clamped into a heavy, circular, wrought-iron frame.

How about just a gigantic , alien eyeball, with the scryed images appearing within the pupil? To stick with your tentacle idea, maybe it is surrounded by tentacles, and crawls slowly around within the space of its confinement, and it requires the user to periodically moisten it with fluid- such as some kind of bodily fluids (sort of a sacrifice)- or even just to make use of its scrying powers?
