Have you ever wondered why, when the pre-epic class levels allow you to have as many as 23 skill ranks in a given skill that synergy stops at 5 ranks? Yeah, us too.

Superior Synergy introduces new skill synergy levels at three new benchmarks: 10, 15 and 20. Not all benefits are merely increases in a simply synergy bonus, either. Some benefits include reduced times needed to perform tasks associated or altered DC modifiers with the synergy skill.

It doesn't end there, either. Superior Synergy also introduces feat synergy. Much like skill synergy, feat synergy allows two or more feats to work together for additional benefits they couldn't achieve on their own without having to take additional feats.

Don't be satisfied with poor skill and feat planning. Check out Superior Synergy: Fantasy, the first in the Superior Synergy series and let your characters make the most of their potential.

Hmmm, this book sounds interesting.

However, do you think you could give an example of this?

Yea, this is a pretty unique product, so I'd definately like to see at least a single skill to give us a taste.

At a buck fifty, though, y'can't go wrong. Let me know when you get around to modern. :)

The skill section is mostly meh (the bonuses are rather obvious) with a few interesting tidbits. The feats, however, are very interesting and is generally a synergy of more than two. As mentioned in the pdf, it is almost like virtual feats, so the DM will have to keep an eye on it. But the idea is worth the money IMO.

In some ways it reminds me of the synergist class type from ST Cooley in the Enchiridion of Elided Enduements of the Expanse. But unlike that, there is no "key" to unlock the feat synergy. Maybe a new feat or two would balance things for some DMs (basic feat synergy for 2 or 3 feats and advanced feat synergy for more than 3 feats?).

Here's an example of superior skill synergy:

Tumble
Synergy (5 ranks): If you have 5 or more ranks in Tumble, you get a +2 bonus on Balance and Jump checks.
Synergy (10 ranks): If you have 10 or more ranks in Tumble, you may perform a hop jump (see the Jump skill) at the cost of 5 feet of movement and you need only make a DC 10 Reflex save to grab an edge of a gap when failing a long jump attempt by less than 5.
Synergy (15 ranks): If you have 15 or more ranks in Tumble, you get a +4 bonus on Balance and Jump checks.
Synergy (20 ranks): If you have 20 or more ranks in Tumble, you only take a −4 penalty for every 10 feet of speed less than 30 feet while making Jump checks. You also gain a +6 bonus for every 10 feet of speed beyond 30 feet.

And here's an example of how feat synergy works:

Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Shield Bash and Shield Proficiency
When making a bull rush while holding a light or heavy shield, you can sacrifice your shield’s AC bonus in order to gain a +2 bonus to your bull rush’s Strength check for a light shield or a +4 bonus for a heavy shield.

The modern version is now in production and will be a bit different than the fantasy version. First off, because synergy works a bit differently in d20 Modern (there's a lot more discretion on the GM's part), we were able to get a lot more creative with the skill synergy aspect. Also, I liked the suggestion of adding flavor text to the feat synergy maneuvers, so expect some colorful tidbits with each to set your imagination on the right track. Lastly, I don't know yet how much bigger the Modern version will be, but it's definately going to have more than 1 or 2 pages over SS: Fantasy.

Thanks for the example. Although DMH might be right about the bonuses being obvious, at least I won't have to do any work thinking about it. :) I also like the idea about the feat synergies.

No prob. Let me know if there's anything else you want to know about this or future versions.
