Miss GenCon, Miss the Memories

Gen Con's fun but there are also scheduling troubles, over-expensive convention center food, smelly gamers who seem to have shower-phobia, backed up toilets, noisy game rooms, and a host of things that can go wrong.

I'm not trying to bring the Gen Con experience down, but I don't want you setting unreachable expectations and being disappointed when you finally make it to Indianapolis.

I'm whatchacall a proponent of setting your expectations low. Then you will almost always be pleased by the real thing.

I thank you, but if anything, the downsides I experience will make hilarious stories

"This gamer stank so bad, I wanted to throw myself in front of oncoming traffic!"

etc. etc. :)

Arthur Q is the master of ceremonies...

*Arthur, resplendent in a sequined tuxedo, grips a microphone as women dressed in such diverse costume as "Sexy Faerie", "Sexy Vampire", "Sexy Schoolgirl", "Sexy Swordmistress" and "Sexy Eldritch Horror" parade before him. He holds the microphone to his face and begins to sing...*

[Brooklyn Accent] Deah she izzzz....it's Miss Gen Cahhhhn[/Brooklyn Accent]

Sorry Arthur, couldn't resist :)

I DO NOT HAVE AN ACCENT!

Joshua Dyal: I don't want to think about male gaming geeks in a GenCon pageant  :D

Ankh-Morpork Guard: That sucks that you can't make next year :( I hope the move goes well for you :)

Drawmack: That's my kind of woman :D

blackshirt5: I world definetly love to hang out with you man; you're damn funny. My list of people is long, and forgive me if I forget anyone, but its: Eric Noah, Piratecat, Col_Pladoh, Morrus, Teflon_Billy, you (blackshirt5), Thatdarncat, ArthurQ, MoeRonalds, Spike, Seri, NiTessine (but he lives in Finland, so that's kinda hard), deBhaal, AltReality, etc. etc.

GMS? Gareth-Michael Skarka?

Teflon Billy: Next GenCon, we should hang out and have a beer or something. :)

WOO! I'm on a list!

Heh, next year I'll be legally able to drink and I also plan on going. I went last year (for one day) and I will go next year. Hopefully, I'll be able to drag along some of my friends, going without them wouldn't be very much fun. :(

I've been doing GenCon for years. The Ennies, then meeting so many ENWorlders was definitely the highlight of my trip. Hope to see you all next year.

I feel the same way you do, Talath. I am determined to make it to GenCon next year and I intend to find you and then we can enact the greatest of all plans... but we should not discuss that here in a public forum. Anyway, the flask will be ours.

I've been gaming for over 20 years. This year, I finally made it to a big convention, Origins, and had a blast. Now I hear from all the people who went to Gen Con, and it sounds like it was even better, from the point of view of meeting people.
Next year, Gen Con!
I've already convinced my wife (she's a gamer too), and we'll be there with bells on. :)
