Missing Monsters?

Someone help a poor blind man out.

I went to do some conversions of an older module and started looking at the old monsters. Are the following in the system still?

air elemental

shadow

ghast

skeleton, large

What sort of CR/HD do you want them to be?

I was just wondering if they are there. The DMG is pretty good in terms of modying bits.

Pretty much CR 4-7 ish.

The party is 3rd level so my xp calc notes that with 1 warlord, 1 warlock, 2 swordmages, 1 wizard, and 1 cleric, that each encounter is about 1800 xp no?

You can find the large skeleton (I forget what it is actually called though) in the DDI Compendium, because some appeared in a published adventure. Based on comments from one of the designer's blogs, it looks like the traditional elementals will be appearing in an upcoming supplement (my guess would be the MotP). The wraith and spectre ganged up and killed the shadow...and then took its stuff. The ghast seems like its out right now, but I think you could beef up the MM ghoul and add a stench aura; you could probably whip that out in 5 minutes.

Well, glad to see I'm just not blind or something.

There seem to be some interesting choices that the designers of the MM made in terms of what to put in and what to leave out.

In 3.5, I thought that the four elementals due to the different sizes they came in, functioned at many levels while the exmaples they have in the new book, well, suck.

And looking for animated objects and not finding them either.

Weird as in both of those cases, they had different types which fits in with the whole multiple style of monsters for multiple difficulties in 4e.

Lot of utility monsters flat out missing. :erm:

edit: And lord above does that search engine stink. I put in skeleton and it came back with Warforged. Threw in undead and found a skeleton minotaur. Ugh.

The Bonecrusher Skeleton from Thunderspire Labyrinth (Adventure Book Two, p54)?

Joe, the only animated object so far seems to be the Animated Carriage from Dungeon #156 (p60).

Yep, the Bonecrusher Skeleton is it. I tried to look it up in the DDI Compendium, but it doesn't look like they've loaded H2 or H3 into it. Joe, if you need the stats, I can email them to you.

BTW, I typed in skeleton into the Compendium, and I got four monster hits, all skeletons.

Slaps self in head.

It defaults to races because that's the first tab.

I can see I'll actually have to pay attention to use this. Not sure I like this design as a tab based format.

Those would be pretty tough encounters - the XP budget for your average 3rd level party is about 900xp for a normal encounter.

150XP for a 3rd level monster * 6 players = 900XP
