Mithral and Armor Proficiency...

Cergorach

How does Mithral armor work in regards of Armor Proficiency? Thus a Mithral Breast Plate counts as light armor for movement purposes and other limitations. Does 'other limitations' also include the Armor Proficiency feat? Thus would a rogue be able to wear a Mithral Breast Plate without penalty for using armor he has no proficiency in?

quoted from the dmg:
Most mithral armors are one catagory lighter than normalnormal for purposes of movement and other limitations (for example, whether a barbarian can use her fast movement ability while wearing armor or not).

Breast plate is still medium armor and thus you need the mediukm armor profieciency. It just counts as light for many things.

However, it should be noted that mithral breast plate has an armor check penalty of zero, so even if you have no armor profiencies it doesn't matter.

Mithril armors have in fact long been a desire for psions, who start with no armor proficiencies, but who do not use the arcane spell failure chance. Therefore, using mithril armor and a mithril buckler is some of the best armor a Psion can get hold of. This goes doubly wel for rogues.

Erm...

Breast Plate (Mithral)
Cost: 200gp (4,200gp)
Armor Bonus: +5 (+5)
Maximum Dex Bonus +3 (+5)
Armor Check Penalty: -4 (-1)
Arcane Spell Failure: 25% (15%)
Speed: 20ft./15ft. (30ft./20ft.)
Weight: 30lb. (15lb.)

So it still has a Armor Check Penalty of -1, still very annoying...

Your right, I forgot to mention the fact it's MW. My bad. So, it'd me a MW mithral breast plate that has no armor check penalty.

Just in case anyone didn't know the exact rules (like me!)
here it is :

A character who is wearing armor with which she is not proficient suffers its armor check penalty on attack rolls and on all skill checks that involve moving, including Ride.
