Mithril Fluidity

I'm probably going to be houseruling Mithril Fluidity in my campaign to something more like Improved Damage Reduction. The Mithril Body pre-req will go away, replaced by Any Warforged Body Feat, but Mithril 'forged can take it multiple times; anyone else is limited to taking the feat once, much like Adamantine Body Warforged can take Improved Damage reduction more than once. Anyone see any problems with this?

On a different but related note: Has anyone come up with warforged made of other materials? It almost seems a shame that, with the new magical materials introduced in the ECS, there aren't any feats to take advantage of them.

I recall someone on the general forum discussing what it would be like if a warforged was made from the livewood of a dryad's tree.

A warforged who replaced his metal body with something unusual would be interesting. Shell? Bone? Wood? Flesh? . . . or more esoteric stuff like solidified shadow? Ooh.

It seems to go against the principle that only Adamantine gives DR. Mithril's unique selling point is that it is lighter and less encumbering.

If you want to make Mithril Fluidity something that can be taken multiple times I think you would be better off allowing it to improve the "mithrilness" related factors - reduce arcane failure and dex penalties still further or whatever (I don't have the text of the feat handy and I don't remember what the base feat does)

Cheers

Warforged and 'new' bodies...

Frukathka; By the book, Warforged have no special means of 'trading' bodies. They can use 'Mind Switch'' and other magical means of switching into another living creature.

Warforged are made, body and mind, in the artifacts called Creation Forges, which have been outlawed and destroyed.

What the others are talking about is the potential of a special warforged made in a Creation Forge from alternate material.

IMHO, since the warforged main reason for being made was for combat, very few non-optimal versions would be made. Altho the potential for specialty warforged optimized for waterborne combat and stealth is there.

Using TEoM, I could see a forge being made that can utilize elemental objects as part of the creation

Sorry for the sidetrack, we now return you to the regularly scheduled thread.

Mithril Fluidity as written can be taken multiple times. Each time it is taken, it increases the maximum dexterity bonus by 1 and reduces the armor check penalty by 1. I wouldn't object to also reducing Arcane Spell Failure by 5% per instance in my game, but for some reason the Wizards folks seem to think that the world will come crashing down if arcane casters can spend a ton of feats to boost their AC a little (through mithril fluidity, or having proficiency negate ASF), when they can already do it with magic items or spells.

I've considered that change myself, but, well, haven't had anyone really interested in a warforged mage, yet. One Artificer with an interest in Self-improvement, and a Paladin looking at a magebred horse for his steed. (+5 strength means the thing can actually -carry- a 320 pound warforged without breaking its back.)

But I figured that since, as written, Improved Damage Reduction can be taken by any warforged, Mithril Fluidity ought to be the same allowing anyone to take it, but giving a special bennie that someone with Someone with Mithril body can take it multiple times, just as a 'forged with Adamantine body can take Improved DR multiple times per the RAW.
