Mix-and-match sourcebooks with other rpgs

Hello Gamers!

Do you use a supplement/sourcebook for one rpg, but use it for a different game altogether?

In my example, I have Tome of Corruption from Warhammer FRP 2e that I'm using for my Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign using the Pathfinder Beta. The reason being is that I love the mutations in it as it follows a similar story-line that has such maladies. I have to do a little conversion to make use of the rules, but it's too awesome to just pass up.

Now, I'm sure that a good deal of you all use a campaign setting using a different rule system, but what I want to know is if you use a supplement (rulebook) for another rpg. And if not, you can talk about your campaign setting with the different rule system, I don't exclude anyone. ;)

I've used the Scarred Lands setting sourcebooks with TWERPS and Risus (no, I'm not kidding). I've recently thought about using the Sharn sourcebook with OD&D (1974), The Fantasy Trip, or Tunnels & Trolls. This is assuming I can concentrate long enough to organize and run a game. :.-(
 

I've used the Chromebooks with other mechanics. Likewise, '...And a 10 foot pole', Aurora's catalogue, and other fantasy / historical equipment supplements. Oh, and several bestiaries from here and there.

That's just off the top of my head. But uh, yeah, I tend to do that stuff a fair bit. :)

Sounds pretty bad. Um, the concentration part, I mean. :erm:
 



When I was running Torg I used books from all kinds of games. I adapted one of TSR's Marvel Superheroes adventures, a bunch of adventures from Dungeon, and some Runequest stuff.

So, for all of you, when you used your sourcebook, did your players feel that it enhanced the game?

I knew one DM when we played 2e used the critical hit tables from Rolemaster. We played some mega-dungeon crawl called Greyhawk Ruins or Ruins of Greyhawk or something like that. The games were really tough, but they were Awesome +5.

I think if DM's take a look at all the gaming material they have and think about how to utilize it for any game they play, it can enhance the experience.
 

I used to do something similar but over time I just extracted whatever I liked and that worked well from other sourcebooks and combining that with my own stuff created my own sourcebook. Course I been around a long time and I write for a living so that kinda thing don't bother me at all. I like doing that kinda thing.
 

I've used mechanical stuff from d20 Modern (monsters), Arcana Unearthed (classes), Iron Heroes (class, rules), and 4e (Healing Surge) in my 3e and pathfinder beta games.

In my old 1e/2e game I used spells from Ars Magica, MERP, WoD Sorcerer, and Mage The Sorcerer's Crusade; True Name Rituals and Blood magic from Earthdawn 1e; and creatures from Palladium (Heroes Unlimited Revised to be specific). I used drugs from GURPS Cyperpunk as potions/alchemical drugs as well for a fighter and psion who were addicted to them.
 

I, like a lot of gamers, use GURPS supplements for non-GURPS games all the time- they're usually very well written.

I've also run HERO campaigns using the setting/sourcebooks from RIFTS/Heroes Unlimited and Space: 1889, and my current M&M campaign is based in the world of Space: 1889 as well.

Besides the cross-pollination I'm doing with 3.5 and 3pp settings and supplements, I've lifted Palladium & other FRPG critters for D&D as well. In fact, I have a post-apocalyptic D&D campaign I'm designing that includes Palladium Wolfen and races from Dragonstar as PC races, and others besides.
