This may have been addressed earlier, but I've only now been able to dig into the Monster Manual Web Errata and see the alterations they made to Elementals. Let's see if I can summarize it briefly:
(1) In the original MM printing, Elementals (the larger types) had too few Feats listed.
(2) The Errata, in order to reduce the proper number of Feats, introduced a one-of-a-kind exception to calculating EHD (Extra Hit Dice) only for Elementals, on page 11.
(3) The Errata still had to add some Feats, and take away others, to correct the Elementals on p. 81-84.
(4) The Errata also (because of #2 above) now had to change all the skill listings for Elementals of all sizes, which originally had been correct. However, they missed the "Small" elementals which are now (post-Errata) incorrect.
(5) The Errata meanwhile failed to alter any other Elementals' skills, so they are all now in error (due to issue #2 above) -- e.g., the Belker, Invisible Stalker, Thoqqua and Magmin -- even though the last 3 were all correct pre-Errata.
Does anyone have an explanation for why this approach was taken, making many more changes, a new rule exception (#2), and introducing new errors (#4-#5) -- instead of just adding one extra feat to each of the larger Elementals?
