MM II: Summon Monster Tables

Something I wish WotC would do in the future is to include this kind of table in any book that has new monsters. I'm sure many of the creatures are balanced for use with the summon monster spells, and it would greatly add to the spells' utility and flavor if spellcasters could get more out of them than dire/celestial/fiendish rodents. :)

The Wyste should be on there

Wasn't the Wyste's first appearance specifically the result of a summon monster spell? I'm not sure which spell level, it may have been as low as summon monster III. Would someone check the module? i don't have mine on hand.

A Wyste could be summoned by Summon Monster IV in the module Speaker in Dreams.

There's some stuff in the House Rules section on summoning monsters by Challenge Rating, I think, and I have an article on my site that lists and categorises summonable monsters according to CR (I always thought it was a little odd that a janni was harder to summon than a djinni).

If someone wants to get in contact with me, I'd like to put the MM2 monsters into the lists... I'm in New Zealand and probably won't see MM2 for ages. See my site for details.

Although it doesn't specifically address every monster from MM2, Dragon #302 will have an article on summoning monsters by CR, including advice on creating custom summon monster lists for each spellcaster.

I quite like the idea of individual spellcasters having unique summon lists, especially since there are so many published monsters.

Good idea. I want nothing but fey on my list, so I can play the unfortunate sorcerer cursed with the ability to summon sprites and pixies, who frolic and caper about...

Heh. Heh.

He said "Balanced." Heh. Heh. MM2 Balanced. Heh.

Sorry. Had to do it.

If I can start summoning CR 5 monsters from MM2 at any point, all my characters will be summoners from now on. MM2 has the most powerful CR 5's I've seen yet.

Mmmmmm.

Although summoning a Tyrant Fog zombie (From MoF) as a CR 3 (as they are printed) isn't bad either.
