MM4's Bluespawn Godslayer

But then again, so is kobold. Heck, you can't even get people to agree how to pronounce it.

I didn't know anyone didn't pronounce it KOH-bohld, with two long 'o's. And at least it comes from legends of a goblinlike creature.

I've always pronounced it "Kohbald." Which in wrong. But I don't care. :)

We forgive you for your transgressions.

I have a buddy who pronounces it ko-BALD. And loudly proclaims it to be the right pronunciation. Of course, he enjoys American beers, so his opinion must be broken.

Do you complain about other creatures in the previous MM's who incorporate magic weapons in their stat block too? This is hardly the first time that's shown up. All those Orcs and Lizardmen entries with manufactured weapons are also wrong? Because it's not like they're born wielding the things either. Nothing's forcing you to use the suggested weapon they tend to favor. It's just a handy shortcut.

I don't have as much problem with the sword as the shield. Is there a factory out there churning out longhorned skulls from Gargantuan dragons?

(On a more positive note, the shield on the miniature apparently CAN be removed with some effort, so some of the goofiness can be toned down)

My main complaint about the Bluespawn Godslayer is that one of them beat the stuffing out of my poor, sweet, innocent Dracolich at the WotDQ Prerelease on Saturday. :(

I don't really see myself using one in a tabletop session, but if I pull one from a booster, I might be tempted to work it into a game somehow (if only to watch my players reaction when I set it down on the battlemat).

Also, the miniature looks significantly less Barney-esque than the preview pics lead us to believe.

I've got a play that calls them "KOH-bol-oyd". *grin*

EDIT: btw, I agree with jgbrowning - it ought to have been called the Bluespawn Slayer. I'll probably just cross out the God in my book.

It's one of the worst things about D&D, of late. If Races of the Dragon was anything other than a horrible sales disappointment, then I really need to start looking for a new game. Because I'm clearly not part of the target audience. I can't even begin to understand the mentality that says, "Hey, let's add more dragon-blooded options to the game."

I strongly advise you to start looking for a new game.

If you can't accept that D&D appeals to a wide variety of people, then it's just going to continue to make you unhappy.

I'm sorry?

A Bluespawn Godslayer has the following attack:
Melee +2 bastard sword +23/+18/+13 (3d8+12/17-20 plus 2d6 electricity) and
bite +15 (2d6+5 plus 2d6 electricity)

How is it possible to miss it does electricity damage? It's in exactly the right spot: the damage it does with its weapons.

Cheers!

Yes, but as a special ability it should be listed below with a fancy title like;
Conductive Charge [Su]: All melee attacks by this creature do an additional 2d6 Electrical damage. This applies to natural weapons and improvised weapondry as well.

As it is is written, is it a Supernatural ability? Does it apply to Bite & Claw attacks? Does it apply improvised weapons? If it bull charges a door, or sunders an object, does it apply there? Does it work with a touch attack? Or can it just touch you for 2d6 electrical damage?

By puting in the stat block, they are leaving a lot for the DM to fill in, players to argue over and more questions for Skip Williams to answer.

Hmmmm, I sense a dark plot here called "job security". ;)
