MMIV Art Gallery...the hell?

So, the MMIV Art Gallery is up. But it isn't even remotely complete. A lot of pictures that've been posted previously, in the production art preview for example, or the excerpt, or even the tie-in Steal this Hook, aren't in it.

Is this a gaffe? Or is this a new WoTC policy? Because, if it is, it's a dumb one.

yeah, its freaking skimpy and not in the good way. I was going to try and find the book in a store and give it a flip through, but after seeing this pitiful art gallery i might not even put that much effort into the book.

You misunderstand me. There's definately more in this book - we've seen a lot of art for other creatures listed in the ToC in other articles on the Wizards site. They're just not in the official art gallery. Which is incredibly peculiar.

That art gallery, stunted or not, comforts me in my decision to pretend the book doesn't exist.

Only things of anecdotal interest appear to be the Bloodhulk (so now we know what the hell these miniatures are) and the skiurids (makes me long for the old days of Squirrel Nutkin).

A big yawn for the rest. Oh, a monster that looks like an elf. Oh, a monster that is an elf. Oh, a pun monster. Great.

I await eagerly MM5, with its fierce and imaginative creatures such as the "Human Commoner", the "Town Militia Guardsman" and the "Town Militia Captain", as well as new interesting creatures such as the "Excitement Killer" (which looks just like the dreaded Human Commoner), and of course the "Clockatrice" (a cockatrice with the effigy template from Complete Arcane, disguised as a new monster and legitimized by a punny name).

Why do two good books when you can put a half-done version of each between one set of covers?

:(

I believe that was called 'Mysteries of the Moonsea'.

But apparently Fiendish Codex 1, and to a lesser extent Tome of Magic, absconded with the entire share of 'freaking awesome book' that had been allocated by WotC for this quarter, given how MoM and (possibly) MMIV have been taking great ideas for two seperate books and making half baked versions all in one.

Well, I liked the balhannoth picture at least...

And the orcs one wasn't too bad...

*cough*

:uhoh:
Ron Spencer, tha artist who did the orcs has a knack for overly ropey heavy muscles, with a semirealistic style. A great way to depict orcs. His females often have male cheekbones, so that can work for female half orcs.

His ogres seem midway between Humans and the 3E Muppet orges. A good halfway point.

The Redspawn is just wayyyyy to busy for my tastes.

I am getting real tired of Wayne England's style though. Those gnolls look like fluffy yap-yap dogs. And those lizardmen... :\
