Anyone else find it odd that a mob of humans has the same HP as a mob of lizardfolk?

Yeah, it is a little wierd, but I tend to think of it as the hitpoints are the cohesiveness of the mob, as opposed to the actual damage individuals can take. The "leftovers" after a mob are dispersed are stronger in the case of a lizardfolk mob than a human mob...

I believe the DMG2 states (in the section specifically about HP, if I'm not mistaken) that their HP isn't exactly a representation of how tough the creatures actually are, just how determined they are or whatever. Or something. But you're not fighting a Lizardman, just like you're not fighting a Human Commoner- you're fighting a mob of such. Aren't you going to mention that a mob of Human Barbarians has the same hit points as a mob of Human Commoners?

Except that their AC and nat armor and DR and regen and fast healing work as normal, so physical toughness is still an aspect and physically hurting the members is still the main method of breaking them up is still damaging the members.

Now when a mob is dispersed, I understand that 30% are dead, 30% are unconcious, and the rest are unharmed?

If this is true, it seems to me that forming a mob is only a good idea for low hit dice monsters. I don't have DMG II though, nor do I have my books with me. But it would be interesting to see an analysis for mobs of humans, mobs of lizard folk, mobs of medusae, etc., to see how beneficial forming a mob actually is for a monster at different HD.
