MODERNIZED is looking for submissions to power its Relaunch!

First Post
MODERNIZED, the free local online e-zine for historical, futuristic, and modern gaming, is preparing for Relaunch this January. We are looking for art & articles to help fill our pages. MODERNIZED has always relied on volunteer submissions, and you have never let us down. Please read the Submission Guidelines below, and send all submissions to MODERNIZED@Gmail.com!

MODERNIZED Submission Guidelines

MODERNIZED relies on volunteer submissions to make up the bulk of it's content. What are we looking for in submissions? The very blunt answer is whatever you have. We do have some rough guidelines for submissions, however, so read on.

Genres
MODERNIZED covers gaming in modern, futuristic, and historical settings. We won't normally publish fantasy material unless it is a variation of one of the above three genres (such as modern fantasy or historical fantasy).

Types of Articles
We accept and publish almost any types of articles, such as...
- New Game Rules Mechanics
- Adventure Ideas, Hooks, or Full Adventures
- Location Descriptions and Maps
- Character Sketches & Writeups
- New Equipment, Vehicles, Weapons, Armor, etc.
- Fiction
- Interviews
- Reviews
- Rants

Game Systems
Most MODERNIZED articles are written for the d20 system under the Open Gaming License. MODERNIZED will publish material for any game system (or even system-neutral content) if we are legally able to do so. However, OGL material is preferred, simply because it is the easiest license for us to understand and utilize. If you are submitting material that is not covered under the OGL, please check that there is no licensing requirements for the system used in the article.

d20 / OGL Articles
Any d20 System material published by MODERNIZED will be published under the OGL; MODERNIZED will not publish an article under the d20 System Trademark License. We prefer that all articles contain only open content, but if you do wish to protect some of your material, make sure to designate your Product Identity and Open Content in the article you submit.

Submitting Material
Send all submissions to MODERNIZED@Gmail.com. Please check this list before sending your submission to make sure you haven't left anything out.
- Please submit all articles in either .doc or .rtf formats
- Please submit all images in the largest possible size & dpi. It is easier to scale down a large image to fit a space then to scale a small one up.
- Include your name, and the names of any other authors involved, in the e-mail.
- If the article falls under the OGL, include the appropriate Section 15 entry for the article, as well as a declaration of Product Identity & Open Content.

Things to Remember
When you submit an article to MODERNIZED, please consider the following:
- The work you are submitting must be your own work, or else you must have permission from the original author(s).
- Check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation as best you can.
- Check your game mechanics for balance and clairity as best you can. MODERNIZED reserves the right to edit submissions to clear up any mechanics inconsistencies (as well as spelling, grammar, and punctuation).

Roudi,

Something else the submitters may want to know is that each MODERNIZED Relaunch will be of limited page length, so that if you get a flood of submissions, theirs may not appear until the following MODERNIZED.

Er...oh, um...to those without the know, I'm Peterson, part of the staff (temporarily) on MODERNIZED. Personally, I'm looking forward to all those submissions - especially the Sports Car one!

Peterson

Good point, Peterson. Only so many articles can fit in MODERNIZED, so if an issue is released and you don't see yours, don't fret; we keep all our submissions in buffer for future use.

Are you referring to the rules featured in the d20 Mecha SRD by Guardians of Order? If so, then absolutely; to the best of my knowledge, those rules are covered by the OGL (there may be additional licensing issues that I will have to research; feel free to mention them if you know of any). I would definitely like to see something using GoO's d20 Mecha rules.

MODERNIZED is an ongoing publication aiming for monthly releases, so we'll always need submissions. However, the "drop dead date" (nice term, by the way) for the first Relaunched issue will be December 20th.
