Modifying War Mind

i will be honest here. i have the EPH, but i havent yet utilized anything in it. Not a major fan of psionics. But, that said, i DO think you need to consider other classes. if you unbalance it, your character is flawed, and that is not fair to the otehr players. proper balance is needed. However, i do understadn your frustration because you feel people are getting off topic with the psion bit. the fact is, in their minds, your rule of +1/level doesnt stand up. 'nuff said. if one classes gets an unfair advantage, another one will also. I wont comment on the actuals number crunching of it all, because (as i said before) i am not familiar with psionics > but from a balancing-factor POV, your idea doesnt fit for me.

Other than that, good luck with your campaign; hope you are having a blast.

First of all, my intent was to answer Coredump's question the way he intended it, for the specific case of a psychic warrior, not as a general prestiege class (given infiate power, this is not how I would change the War Mind).

But for the sake of argument I decided to think about it a little more. The first thing I realized is that war minds gain no weapons or armor proficencies, though that can be solved with a level of fighter.

Then I had another revolation, which was the very thing that you find so appealing, would also be your undoing. The appealing psion power progression also brings with it the psion power list, which while superior in many ways, is inferior for a combat based caster. It misses out on a whole bunch of really poweful buffing powers, as well as many powers that can be used as swift action.

I'm not saying I'm sure that the psychic warrior would come out on top, just don't count him out so quickly.

I realize that "+1 level..." may be different for a Psion... but I am specifically asking about a PW that is taking this.

This is meant for a Psychic warrior, we do NOT have to consider a psion at all.

The question is the same. If a *psychic warrior* wants to take the WarMind PrC, would it be unbalancing to use 6-7 +1 level... instead of the current method?

The thing is, would you deny a later pc who was a psion the same bennies?

Sure. To me a PrC is not something the character finds in a book. It comes from meeting someone, or joining a guild/group/whatever that will train you a certain way. They give you options. Not everyone joins the same groups, nor is given the same options. Since it comes from roleplaying, and not a 'net search', I have infinite ability to tailor it to meet individual character needs.
My player has indicated that he is interested in the WarMind Prc, so now I think of ways for that to become available to him, and what changes may be warranted. He will be meeting someone from an underground Psionic society (Averynner/Kalamar) next week, and within a few sessions should get trusted enough to be offered special training. Perhaps in exhange for perfroming a certain task...maybe not... But in either case, that is what will open up a couple of PrC's for him.
Likewise, I have no problem changing the requirements for entry if it does not unbalance things for *that* character.
