Never mind. I don't think I should help Mystery Man, even though he is probably looking and ranting at that one book, albeit defective. I wonder if the FLGS only ordered one, or the other copies have already been purchased prior to his visit.

Mongoose does not print their own books. That's what the printing companies are for. If you have a defective product, notify Mongoose and they will try to correct the situation.

This is, theoretically, correct. However, it isn't always the case. I got a defective Dawnforge book from FFG and I contacted customer service about what could be done. Not only did I not get an answer, I didn't even get a reply. I am not pleased and am going to try one more time. If I don't get a reply this time, well, FFG will certainly know of my displeasure.

Uh..

I'm not looking for your "help" but thanks anyway. :) I'm not sure what kind of help you could give...

They have 4 different titles on the shelf all in the same condition as described. Time to get a new printer I think. The owner of the gaming store was in the same state of shock and awe that I was after I brought it to his attention.

But all of you who think I'm "impolite" and "uncivil" have a right to think so. I was. But I stand by my statement. Thanks.

That's odd, when did you send the email? It was to ffg@fantasyflightgames.com right?

Well, have you talked to Mongoose_Matt? He usually lurks around this messageboards, not necessarily this forum.

Ah! There I go, trying to help someone again. :(

From my own experience on the boards, Matt is a great guy, but if the company is in the wrong and aren't doing anything about it, like the negative comments about game mechanics and editing, he usually doesn't say anything. What could he really say outside of the normal, "We are aware of it and are working on it." that he's been saying for the last several months as the company goes through several growth spurts?

Matt could do what necromancer did about the Tome of Horrors binding problem, give free replacements with a newer, and good, binding. There is such a thing as standing by your product, and customer satisfaction. Necro goes that extra step, and since Mongoose is so much larger and supposedly has more cashflow, it wouldn't kill them to give their customers replacement product of an acceptable quality level.

If it is the printers problem then Mongoose should be even happier to correct the problem, since the printer would have to eat the loss of such poorly produced books.

The initial poster may have been rude, but they were most definitely within their rights to be an unhappy customer and to call Mongoose out about it.

Fantasy Flight Games was equally good about replacing the Midnight core book. It showed a real commitment on their part to the product.

Hi guys,

A few points;

1. Warped covers? They most certainly do not leave our warehouse this way. Please tell your FLGS to get in touch with his distributor. If he has any problems there, he is welcome to contact us directly (afennell@mongoosepublishing.com).

2. Fragile Binding - I hear this crop up every once in a while. However, I have never, ever seen this happen to any of our books with my own eyes :) However, we print a minimum of 5,000 of any book and it is entirely possible that quality may indeed vary. If you ever have a problem with the binding of your Mongoose books, again, your first port of call is your FLGS - there is a system already in place to handle defective books. But again, if you get no joy, give us a shout direct and we'll sort you out.

3. Recycled paper? You'll find that paper to be of higher spec than most other companies use these days. But I think your point comes from. . .

4. Colour. Colour printing uses different paper to b/w and if you are used to WotC books, then this may be the source of your concern. As for demanding colour at those prices, when the US Dollar begins swinging in the other direction (it really is in a dire state at the moment), it could well be a possibility.

In short, your FLGS should be able to sort you out with any defective books (which should be very rare), but you can always come to us if your FLGS is not very F.

Hope that helps!

There were 3 titles on his shelf that were hardback. One of the Encounters and Lairs and another was Strongholds and Dynasties, there was another but I forget what the title was. All three titles were pretty haphazard in their construction. Compared to some of the cheaper titles on the shelf even. The state of the US dollar shouldn't really be an excuse when it comes to the poor quality of the construction of the books. Regardles of the content 35 dollars is rediculous IMO, gotta draw the line somewhere I guess.
