(Mongoose) Lone Wolf 7 Out Now - Lone Wolf 8 on Pre-Order

MongooseMatt

First Post
The seventh book in the epic Lone Wolf saga, Castle Death, is now on release, with copies already on their way to those of you who pre-ordered.

In this adventure, you play Lone Wolf, the last of the Kai Lords, exploring a terrible dark fortress for a key to the wisdom of your ancestors. As with all Lone Wolf books, Castle Death is part of a much larger campaign, with your character developing since the start of the first book, Flight From the Dark.

Directly following on from this is Book 8, Jungle of Horrors. Available in early November, the Collector's Edition of Jungle of Horrors is now up for pre-order, pitting you against the forces of Warlord Zargon and Agarash the Damned.

You can find details on the entire Lone Wolf series at;

Hi there,

I'll present my biased credentials first - the Lone Wolf gamebooks were what got me into roleplaying many years ago. . .

Anyway, they are a set of solo gamebooks, perhaps like the Fighting Fantasy and Choose Your Own Adventure books. However, the big difference is that the Lone Wolf books effectively make one big campaign - there is a single storyline going through all of them, and your character develops and gains experience as you go through each book. They are also set in the world of Magnamund, which is incredibly rich and detailed.

I would highly recommend anyone tries at least the first book. You'll be hooked.

Lone Wolf was also one of my early entries into gaming.

I went into the linked site a little bit and I found a lot of information that really excited me. They've expanded the original books with new content! They are publishing previously unfinished works. They are even producing brand new novels.

Man, as if I didn't have too many hobbies and too little money ...

Is it the same type of format as well? Like 'if you want to do x, turn to page a; if you want to do y, turn to page b'?

Also, it looked like it's its own game system. So are the combats like: "if you defeat the pirates, turn to page c, but if you are defeated turn to d"? And how much character customization is there? Fighting Fantasy just had randomly generated characters, whereas Dark City Games products let you build a character.

Finally, is there a pdf option that I missed, or is it print-only?

Ahhh Lone Wolf. My first love... RPG style that is. :D

My current 4e campaign is based in Magnamund, using the amazing maps from Project Aon.

It is great that these are getting a release after so long, a new generation can enjoy them.

For your character, you have a range of Kai 'disciplines', such as Hunting, Weaponskill and Mindblast, that allow you to do special things (you can think of the Kai Lords as psionic monks, in a way). You gain a new discipline every adventure, gradually becoming more rounded, and some dicsiplines have sub-categories.

There is no PDF version yet.
