Mongoose Publishing's Pocket PHB

Here's my question--and I'm very serious about this: is it really pocket-sized? Seriously, the development of paperback-novel sized supplements would pretty much rock my world.

Please tell me that this is the first shot in the revolution?

It wouldn't necessarily fit in your back pocket... but perhaps a cargo pocket. It is very handy in size and easy to flip through. Not to mention that it contains rules for Epic play and Psionics, I think this pint-sized collection of rules will be a much more handy reference than the PHB. I also agree with it being an excellent alternative to upgrade to 3.5e.

I was very hesitant to pick this up as I've been put off by Mongoose's poor editing jobs on some of their books in the past. But so far, from what I've read and compared to source materials, it seems pretty accurate.

It's not the first shot at any rate.

Look up "Darksword Adventures", by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. It's a roleplaying game set in their Darksword universe, published in paperback form. I found it in a used bookstore mixed in with the regular darksword novels... clearly they didn't realize what it was (Since the used bookstore in question STARTS roleplaying games at 10 dollars, and goes up from there, even used ones).

There's also Dragon Warriors, published back in 1985.
It was a pretty good system, with each extra book adding new rules and adventures.

Geoff.

This would also be good if your group didn't play D&D, never have and never will, but do play other third party D20 games that 'require the use of D&D 3rd edition PHB'.
This sort of characterises my group, though as the roleplaying fanatic, I have the PHB (but never played it) as well as star wars and D20 modern... But since others are GMing now, I can see them needing this.

I've never read through them myself, but we are currently playing through them as D&D scenarios. However, the GM (who owns the books) is a big fan of them, both the system, and the general concept. In fact, when we happened to meet one of the authors at a party, he (the GM) went quite fanboyish, which was amusing to see because prior to that, we'd never seen him get at all excited about anything, ever. :)

Hmmm, when I mentioned this book to my group I got two different reactions:
'Why would anyone want something like this?'
and
'Whoa, cool! When's it due out?'

Then the two groups just sat there and looked at each other funny...

The Auld Grump, for carrying around to work on stuff at odd moments this will be a godsend.

That's a nice try, but you should know by now that you have to put your disclosure in a bold, red, preferably obscure font. Thus, I can only conclude that you are trying to hoodwink us by trying to slip this under the radar.

Damn it! Spotted! And there was me thinking I was the F117 of Internet posters... :)

Is it 3.5 or 3.0? From thier web site, it looks to mostly be information from the SRD. If anyone could please give me any information possible about this book it would be greatly appreciated.

If it looks to be a good book then I'll be picking up three of them for my friends in the group who have to go down range for the next year. It would be perfect for them since cirtain individuals in thier chain of command don't exactly think that it's a wholesome hobby. Plus it would be a heck of alot lighter to carry than everything else.

Thanks

If you've picked it up, what do you think of it so far? I thought this might make a good chrsitmas gift for some of my more rules-oriented friends.

I picked it up hoping for a good quick reference book I can bookmark heavily and not worry about ruining my WOTC PHB.

Let me know what you think and if you think it is a worthy gift.

Thanks!
I would like one. :)

Sounds like a good idea to me and will have to look for it.
