Sadly my long reply to Ranger REG got eaten by this crappy PC (*grr*). Basically it boiled down to "Ian Sturrock (Conan, Slaine) good, Mongoose editing (and most work of Mongoose BBEG Matt Sprange) bad"

Ironically, my experience is the opposite. Go figure. And see above.

Our goal is to hook you all. Sooner or later, we will do it :)

THAT'S a marketing strategy I can appreciate. Thanks for not trying to move me from Trial through Regular and to Lifestyle Player as quickly as possible.

And bring on The Horned God Complete Campaign.

And, if WotC is putting out a book on dragons, I would think that the *last* thing you'd want to do as a smaller publisher is put out a similarly-themed book at the same time as an "official" one.
Well, it's kinda hard when WotC, who used to leave such "niche" products to third-party publishers, suddenly have no choice but to answer the demand of D&D label fans. It's those same damn fans that prefer WotC not Fantasy Flight Games nor AEG to make adventure modules, so when those third-party publishers (except a handful like Goodman Games) stopped making adventure modules, WotC have to step up.

Some days, I hate being a D&D fan.

Well I'll always defend the quality of Ian's work (the stuff he wrote himself, as opposed to eg someone else's sloppy cut & paste job in Conan: Spellb.ook Edition) but now Matt has posted here I feel kinda guilty about slagging off Matt's work, I have bought tons of it after all and I enjoy it in a Pot Noodleish kinda way (hm, not sure what's US equivalent - maybe Crystals burgers?). :D

I don't mean to be rude, but are you seriously trying to tell me how I run my business? :) Or, more seriously, are you suggesting I am a liar?

British libel laws are a wonderful thing.

I've got a 4 or 5 of the Slayer's Guides and 4 or 5 of the Encyclopaedia Arcane books and I mostly use them for the fluff. I don't really need anyone to give me more crunch on Hobgoblins, but the ideas that I generate from the content make it worth it. Between a new wife, a job, family and friends, I can use the help for my bi-weekly D&D game. :)

True, there are some parts of some books that make me grimace, but mostly I make due. Admittedly, though, I have had excellent luck with Malhavoc, Green Ronin, Bastion Press (Oathbound is very cool), FFG (Midnight and Legends & Lairs) and a few others. Some awesome books for ideas -- Dyansties and Demigogues, Crime and Punishment by Penumbra (I think). Necromancer has some good and some aweful, but mostly pretty damn good. AEG made some terrible (my opinion) books in the "One Word Title" series, but I was really liked Wilds, Magic and the two updated Adventure books.

Anyway, most publishers are hit and miss, with a FEW exceptions. In my opinion it's whatever sparks your imagination that counts.

Which is the reason that I as a Londoner have not suggested at any point that the Swindon based publishers spelling and editing problems are due to being yokels.
:p

Quickly points to favourable ENWorld reviews of Mongoose Products

You'll regret that as soon as I get down from my tractor. . .
