(Mongoose) Reformations, Corrections and Apologies

Will the books with the heaviest errors see some type of 2nd edition or printing? I am very interested in picking up a few of the books like Sheloth and the Monster Compilation but not as they are for example.

Hi guys,

1. Double proofreading. Two eyes are better than one, and every major release will now be proofread independantly by two professional proofreaders.

Matt, I would suggest you not limit yourself to one eyed proofreaders, it limits your pool severely

Attention to quality?

Naw, never been tried before. It's an amazing Mongoose innovation.

Seriously though, this is great news for gamers!
True, but you know what they say: It's the end result that counts. ;)

Is that two sets of eyes? Or do you have a bunch of pirates and cyclops working in your editorial staff? <grin>

I think you might go through more writers that way. When they make the writer walk the plank... its all over man.

Just a note... on RPG.net's forums, Matt has said that 1) yes there will be a 2nd printing of Conan, and 2) yes, there will be a PDF errata released and soon (he said, "I cannot imagine it will take long to get it up on the site").

Treebore: Conan is likely to be reprinted (due to them flying out of the warehouse!) though it will be a few months yet, as we anticipated its popularity to some degree. In the meantime, yes, an FAQ will be available in the very near future.

Ranger: I cannot speak for other industries, but this approach seems common sense to me.

JoeG: This will be done on a case by case basis. For example, the Ultimate Equipment Guide and Q.Wizard were recently reprinted, with both being 'touched up' in the process (nothing major for either, so don't worry, you are not missing anything!). There is also the possibility of material being combined into other projects, but we'll just have to see how things go on.

Sawbones & Tensen: Good point, well made :)

And if that is not going to take long I get bugged on why they did not do that at first place. I have not got a copy yet and surely will not before the second print is out, the book is expensive and I don't want to have a book that lacks anything for the purpose it was made...

I do think they have made a good job on the book, from what i have read, and I do want to have it, but having a book with pick your weapon damage and many writings mistakes annoys me, I feel like an idiot buying something that was like a beta.

I now it is hard on the publishers side but I think that any book should be proofread at least once after it is complete and if major changes are made, at least once again. For that i would use different proofreaders or have the playtesters get a pdf copy and ask for proofreading, or make what some game companies (computer game) do, make a beta test with the public, either open or not, but at least, have some people reading it for free before releasing...

Anyone in my gaming group would read anything I do before I would release it for sale, that is for sure.

Matt,

Please keep us/me posted about when the Conan reprint is available. I really like Conan, and from what I have read your book really catches all of the "flavors" of the Conan world. So when you tell me all the bugs have been exterminated I will get it.

Most of these changes have been implemented fairly transparently, but there will be a small number of casulaties in delayed books as they move through the new systems. In particular, the long-awaited Lone Wolf RPG looks like it will now be released at the beginning of May, rather than the end of April, as we had hoped.

Matt, Thank you for your attention to customer complaint and detail. It's a commitment to quality that keeps me re-evaluating Mongoose more favorably versus other top-tier publishers.

And don't worry about the delay - I'll take a late book that's titled "Lone Wolf" over one titled "Lone WOverlordf" any time and place. :)

We have to face up to things - we have recently released a couple of books with mistakes that I find, frankly, embaressing.
Off to a good start, I see. :p

I guess there is a remote chance that embarrass is spelled differently in the UK, but if so I'm not aware of it.
