So, is "Book of the Sea" a D&D v3.5 rehash of discontinued "Seas of Blood"? Or is it more? If so, how so? Is it comparable to Mystic Eye's "The Deep"?

Metaphysics.

Or divinity.

God managed it, somehow.

I do not know about Mongoose specifically, bust most of the companies have a link on their website. Otherwise, use the "contact us" link and e-mail them your interest in becoming a playtester.

They usually wan to know the basics about your group. Such as how many, gaming experience, how often you all play, what levels do you usually play, do you use PrC's, and other info.

I know Green Ronin has all the playtesters they want right now, I do not know about any others.

1. Double proofreading. Two eyes are better than one, and every major release will now be proofread independantly by two professional proofreaders.

No offense, but I'm more than a bit shocked that this isn't standard practice. I've worked as a proofreader for a few products - even trying my best, a second, even third, proofer was necessary. You don't proof a document once - it happens over and over and over, as the document develops and changes. As you mentioned, tunnel vision becomes a serious problem, especially as the size of the document increases. For adequate proofing, more than one proofreader is mandatory, not optional.

I hope every publisher out there is using this as a minimum standard for their print products.

3. A Statistical Analyst has been brought on board. Every stat, no matter how minor, will now be checked, double-checked and then run past this guy.

Just a suggestion - find a computer aid and use it religiously. I used a version of the 3.0 Heroforge spreadsheet which I modified to handle special cases. I lost count of the number of times the program caught mistakes in skill ranks, abilities, AC, BAB, etc. Sure using the program took time - but no more than doing the analysis manually, and each example in a product should be vetted at least once, sometimes more.
