Mongoose & Runequest

I was just checking out the previews for Mongoose's soon to be released game and Glorantha setting. Awesome! Looks like a lot of gritty fun! The only thing i wish it had was some full color plates, but i see how they wanted to keep the price down. Conan rocks, but $50 for the core book was harsh. Anyway, what's a little money?

Upon closer inspection, several of the supplements WILL be full color. Looks like the core stuff they're just keeping low-cost. Man, i'm excited about this.

Also, future Mongoose Conan material will be for RQ, not d20.
What !?!

I think that this would be awesome, but I'm really surprised. I remember 'Mongoose Matt' stating emphatically over at RPG.net many weeks ago that this would not be the case.

Do you have a link, tets?

Hmmmm, there are some posts about this on the official Mongoose forums. Since Mongoose isn't denying it, seems like it's true.

Time to dump my Conan stuff, I guess. I simply cannot stomach Runequest myself.

On the plus side, since Mongoose isn't my favorite company in the world, I had to buy Conan stuff while holding my nose (so to speak). Won't have to worry about that anymore...

Actually, this is a rumor at this point. Mongoose has said that no decision has been reached. It's been debated over on the Mongoose forums with the anti-D20 & RQ-fanboys squealing in delight at the possibility while the die-hard Conan fans (as opposed to D20) are voicing their displeasure as loudly as possible.

Why dump it? If you have your books continue to use them. I've stated that if Mongoose switches Conan to RQ they'll lose me as a customer. Should the day ever come where I'm getting rid of my RPG library, my Conan books would be the last RPG books to go!

Between Conan, Thieves World, True Sorcery, Game of Thrones, and Grim Tales - I've found the "dream system" I've been seeking to handle my fantasy RPG needs. Conan OGL is my baseline system with tweaks from the other books as desired. (Although if playing a Hyboria campaign, I'd use the Conan OGL books as written.) Conan was the RPG that convinced me that D20-based games were viable for more than D&D-default play. No way I'm switching to Mongoose's RQ. With gaming time in short supply (wife & 2 kids + job), the days where I'm trying out new systems just to play with the shiny new toy are over. Give me quality d20 & OGL supplements and I'm a happy man.

Not that I've seen the new one, but if someone had asked me, out of the dozens of systems I'd played, which most felt like Conan, I'd have probably said old-school RuneQuest.
