How's the page count feel?
How're the illustrations?
How complete does the gear list feel?
thanks!
Page count feels about right. It's an OGL stand-alone book, designed to be used without a core handbook, so there is some duplication of material d20 veterans already know -- how to roll up a character, what the ability scores mean, etc. But this is good for newbies.
Also there is an introduction to the cyberpunk genre that was redundant to me, but is interesting nonetheless and will be helpful to those unfamiliar with the genre.
The illustrations are fine. I've seen better cyberpunk illos, but I've also seen much worse. Overall, these are a little above average. Lots of color, though. I'm used to seeing a lot of B&W cyberpunk illos, so these were really nice in that regard.
The gear list overall is good. Maybe a little light in actual cyber implants and such. There didn't seem to be as many options as in, say, R. Talsorian's "Cyberpunk 2020." But I think Mongoose is expecting other game publishers to come out with lots and lots of compatible supplements loaded with cyberwear, weapons, equipment, computer programs, etc. This book has plenty to get you started with, however. You can probably also use some of the weapons and gear from d20 Modern. Cybernet uses a wealth system that is similar to, if not the same as, d20 Modern (I'm not that familiar with d20 Modern, so I don't know if the wealth system is exactly the same or not, even though I do own the d20 Modern book. Guess I should go reread it.
