Mongoose's New Monster Book

Any opinions? I haven't seen it yet nor read any reviews. Anyone own it? I'm obviously short of monster books as i own only 12. Maybe a Moongooser can tell us a little of what the content is like. There's nothing i love more than a good monster book, especially grittier ones along the lines of Monsternomicon. Is there a pdf preview available of the Monster Encyclopedia or its sequel?

I hear that they're sending a copy to John Cooper.

I'm waiting to hear not only his review, but if the monsters in this book are going to be collected in the Gen Con release. I have no problem with it if they're not and John gives it a good review. I'll go buy it and the $100 release at Gen Con. If they are, I'm not buying this book, but will get the Gen Con release. If they take some of them from both monster books, I'm not buying any of them, including the Gen Con release.

I was disappointed that the pdf version is about $27. I can get the physical one for about the same on amazon. I buy pretty much exclusively pdf format now, but that doesn't mean I think they should be as expensive as the physical hardbound books.

It means that I might get it later but there are plenty of lower priced monster book pdfs that I'll consider getting first.

I saw it at my FLGS, but didn't buy it. The monsters looked ok, but didn't seem super original or amazingly cool. Neither did they look overwhelmingly stupid. The art was about average for a 3rd party monster book... so-so, with some pieces better than others. I have plenty of monster books already, and saw no reason to buy another one, or specifically this one. If I can find it for about $10 or less on ebay, I'll probably get it, but otherwise, I can live without it.

Joe - has that price been confirmed?

Not that I'm aware of, but it's the one I've heard before, probably due to comparissions of the World's Larget Dungeon.

And I have no problem with that if it doesn't incldue mosnters from the current monster book, or includes all the monsters from the current monster book.

I guess I'm a bit out of the loop; what monster book is this, and what's its schtick?

There are two (well 3) monster books from Mongoose coming out.

There are two Monster Encyclopaedias (Volume I and Volume II) that are coming out in the next couple of months. These contain all-new monsters.

Then, at Gen*Con, Mongoose is releasing a 1,000-page monster book that draws on monsters from various d20/OGL sources. No further info on what's in there (e.g. what sources monsters are drawn from) has been provided as far as I know.
