Mongoose's new RPG License - speculation?

But if they DID get Halo 3, wouldn't a minis game make more sense than an RPG? I wonder.
WizKids is doing the Halo miniature game.

Of course, giving the different IP rights out to different companies can get a good foothold and visibility. WizKids doesn't do RPGs and I don't believe Mongoose does miniatures.

Mongoose puts out the Halo RPG and they already have miniatures on the market (including that HUGE scarab).

You may be right - it could mean that it has been a previously popular RPG in the past. Traveller and CoC or similar would qualify under this definition if Dr. Who wouldn't.

Maybe. I think either would be stretching "extremely popular" (I'd buy popular). In fact, I'd think so for any RPG except D&D. I might buy "extremely popular" for D&D.

Mongoose has 5 miniature game lines out at present, with a sixth releasing in November. They got into that market around the same time they snapped up Babylon 5 and Conan in their scramble to diversify from d20 only.

Well, WizKids does have an existing relationship with Microsoft (specifically their game unit). I doubt Mongoose would be able to pry that away from WizKids if both were going for it.

It's all relative, isn't it? ;)

Also, this is marketing speak. It could be freakin' Shadowrun and they would still call it "extremely popular."

(It can't actually be Shadowrun, since that license went with the Battletech license to Catalyst in June.)

Mongoose has the Starship Troopers table top miniatures strategy game. including some pretty cool figures actually!

Their 'Battlefield Earth" prepainted mini's game is just ramping up too...

No, you're quite right. I haven't been keeping a close eye on WizKids, and was unaware of the HaloClix. I suppose a Halo RPG could have potential though...

Operating under the assumption that it's a videogame license, here are some extremely popular franchises.

Legend of Zelda
Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts (yeah, good luck getting Disney IP ;) )

Grand Theft Auto
Resident Evil
Halo
Mario
Tetris ;)
Metal Gear Solid
