Mongrelmen in 3E

Broken Ones are more frankenstien.

Mongrel Men are more....3-mile island. :)

And, yeah, ToH doesn't have the monopoly on the beasties. I believe the exact quote is "MOST of these creatures won't be appearing in Wizard's products any time soon"

I mean, Orcus and Juiblex were in the BoVD, and also here...so obviously, there's some overlap.

There was supposed to be some minor overlap, as per an agreement between WotC an NG. It appears that the Fiend Folio will have a greater number of overlap than anone thought.

Actually, Mongelmen and Broken Ones have always been distinctive creatures, even in previous editions. They just have similar backgrounds for how they came to be.

I must be misremembering, I always thought Ravenloft was filled with mongrelmen from Hazlik's experimentations, the Dr. Moreau guy, and others. Where are broken ones done out as different from mongrelmen in 2e?

Fiend Folio or Tome of Horror

What it's looking like is that I either come up with my own conversion, or buy a whole 'nother monster book for the mongrelman stats.

I like the classic AD&D monsters and am always searching to find more of them. Which will have the most? Fiend Folio or Tome of Horror? Anyone know of any monster lists?

The concept of the chart to determine an individual mongrelman's appearance, and the abilities that come from having a specific body part from a specific creature, date back to "The Ecology of the Mongrelman" in Dragon #242. (December 1997)

fellas! let's not forget that the Creature Catalog has the mongrelman - still the site that the Tome of Horrors wouldn't have existed without. :)

it's nice to sell the book, but if he doesn't want to buy it, the site is good for the freebies (and hey, the site does help advertise the book - so they help each other). :D

Definitely. I looked at basically all the monster books out there, and this is definitely my favorite. The Creature Collection started me on my craze for monsters, and this book satiates the appetite. It definitely brings that old school feeling into the heart man, and although quite a lot of them are on the Creature Collection site, with the art, they're even better.
