Level Up (A5E) Monk Buff Suggestion

(He, Him)
So what if it was something like this...

FOCUSED STATES (didn't want to call it 'Zen State')
By controlling your breathing, centering your mind and taking a specific stance, you can enter a focused state of mind that allow you to push your skills to greater height. During your turn, you can spend 1 ki points to enter a specific State from the list below. Each state offer a specific benefit and will end at the end of your turn if certain conditions are not met, or if you enter another state. At third level, you know the following three states:

Furious Flurry State
Immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make two unarmed strike as a bonus action. This state ends if you do not use your bonus action to make an attack.

Patient Mountain State
You can take the Dodge action as a bonus action on your turn. This state ends if you do not take the Dodge action or if you move more than 20 feet on your turn.

Unfettered Wind State
You can take the Disengage or Dash action as a bonus action on your turn, and your jump distance is doubled. This state ends if you do not take the if you do not move at least 20 feet on your turn.
Spending 1 ki to enter a state that runs until you break it is quite an elegant solution to insufficient ki at low levels. I like it :)

Thanks!

Plus, it means you get more freedom to choose your play style. You can use the same state over and over because you're familiar with it, or switch up every once in a while, stick to one state for as long as possible to conserve ki, or go all out and switch states mid combat.

Plus, now you have more 'hooks' to hang subclass features. Maybe there's a 'Way of the Stone Fist' Monk that gets Temp HP when they enter the Patient Mountain State. Maybe the Four Elements Monk can change the damage of the Furious Flurry to Fire or Electric Damage, and then gain a flight speed if they're in the Unfettered Wind State. Or they get a brand new state with its own bonus and rules.

I would love to see in a monk:
  • martial arts fighting styles
  • ki combos: if you hit two/three/four attacks against the same/different targets you gain X, Y, Z, or recover a Ki point, etc.
  • proficiency bonus to AC + either Wis or Dex.
  • Strength monk archetype (Str + Dex or Str + Wis)
  • better/fun factor capstone

* tongue of sun and moon doesn't fit every monk archetype IMO, either be an pick feature (with a few other options to choose) or an archetype feature.

* At level 4/8/12/16/19 you gain +1 to str/dex/con/wis. If any are already 20, the points can be spent elsewhere. You can also either get a feat or another +2 to any stats. You cannot exceed +2 to any one stat through any combination of these, however.

Monks are about physical and mental perfection. By extending ASIs so that you actually do perfect your body, a bunch of the MAD-ness of monks problem fades away.

* As an action you can refocus. You regain your wis bonus in Ki.

First, this makes monk Ki "per encounter"; no "1 hour break" to get it back. Second, you can burn a round in combat to get a fresh supply of Ki.

* Patent Defence/Step of the Wind also permits doing your Martial Arts bonus action attack at some point.

* Whenever you need to spend a reaction, you can instead spend a Ki.

* Stillness of Mind doesn't require your action. At the start of your turn if you have Ki and are Charmed or Frightened, you lose 1 Ki and the condition ends. (some frightened/charmed conditions consume or control your action)

* At level 20, you gain an additional bonus action on each of your turns.

4 Elements Monk should have access to a ki-powered version of Elemental spells in this supplement, not just the limited options from PHB.
(Idea not original to me.)

Another State of Focus: By concentrating your mind, you focus on a skill in which you are trained. You get -some cool bonus- on your next skill check using that skill.
(The bonus might be 'cannot roll less than 10' or +1d4 as Bless)
Yes you can See the Hidden (focus Perception), or do that thing where Aragorn calms the panicked horse in the stall (focus Animal Handling)
