Monk Changes

yes, enemy only would be nice.

And i thought about defensive weapon and TWF and double sai (parrying dagger)

it is +1 damage, +2 AC and +1 ref for 3 feats. Or heavy shield, leather for +2 AC +2 ref and looking stupid. Both options sound quite balanced to me as mosst other characters have more or less equal good options.

I just though +3 AC like avenger would be a bit more compelling. Maybe only if you use a two handed weapon. (Maybe a staff fighting like feat for the monk would be nice which adds a bit more AC so he can use two handed weapons)

Note, that the spear feat allows him to get some reach which may be well worth -1 to AC.

One thing I don't understand is not getting some weapon properties when wielding the weapon as an implement. It's in the third paragraph under Implements. It says you don't get the defensive property. That makes little sense to me. Do you not get defensive while attacking with an implement power?

If a dwarf monk is proficient with and uses a craghammer as an implement and attacks, the dwarf gets no proficiency bonus, the damage is specified by the power instead of the craghammer, and the brutal property is irrelevant. This I understand.

But why no defensive? Couldn't you just say that your monk wields his weapon as a weapon until you make an attack with an implement power? So if you're attacked while attacking (via immediate interrupt), then you don't get the defensive bonus.

To benefit from defensive, you have to wield the defensive weapon in your offhand. So to get the AC benefit you have to attack with, say, your Ki Focused Monk Unarmed Strike and wield the defensive weapon in your offhand.

I think.

He does not need enemies only on the heroic & paragon abilities as he can just not deal the damage.

I guess he is +2 ac not the avangers +3 as he is less defenfery.

That spear feat does look very handy indeed - especially at paragon level - getting two enemies next to one you can be a trial

My group is going to be starting a new campaign soon, and we've brought a couple people into the fold. One guy decided to give the Monk a shot, so we made the character on Friday. There was a mock combat so that the DM could get back into the swing of things, and the new guys could try the system. The Monk was devastating. As a 7th level character in a group of 4 people, he jumped right into the middle of 2 mummies, a flameskull, and 2 scarab swarms. He did damage left and right, moved enemies into good positions, and shut down some guys. It was impressive. The Monk is definitely cool.
