Monk Orders and info

Vanion

First Post
Hello all,

I'm pretty new to PnP and just have the core 3.5 books. I was interested in finding out more info on certain classes, but I'm low on cash at the moment and buying up every source book would pretty much mean the rest of my group and myself would have to turn into anorexics for a couple of weeks to afford it...not to mention teetotallers :(

Anyway, it's monks in particular that I'm interested in getting specific information on. I've read up on the basics, like how monks of the Old Order espouse the philosophy of a god who may be dead or never existed, those of the Dark Moon follow Shar etc, but have little specific information. Like what exactly is the philosophy that the monks of the Old Order follow, what tenets to they base their ideals of holiness and spirituality upon, what's their daily routine like? (etc)

From what I've seen, the Sword and Fist book only adds extra feats and PrCs, which is fine, but I'd like to know how to play the core class properly first! So, if you guys could point me to a source book (or hopefully an online resource) that has all the info on different monks orders and their overall mindset, I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers.

This won't have much of what you're wanting, but since you sound like you're interested in FR material, here's the web enhancement to Faiths & Pantheons, which has some info on monk orders near the end of it.

Thanks for the link. I guess I'll sort of have to wing it...the DMs been pretty cool though, so it should all be fine.

Thanks again.

For not much money (around $10), there's a pdf book named "Beyond Monks" (iirc) by James Garr of Chainmail Bikini Games. It's quite good, and I think it might have what you're looking for. You can get it from rpgnow.
