Monk Progression

Hi. Any suggestions on level/class progression for an 11th level monk? My character concept is similar to that of a Shaolin abbot where after training as monk he's gained superior physical skils and is prepared to focus on the mind. I'm debating whether to go into psychic warrior or psion. Thanks.

If you would like to stay in the monk genre, you could consider the red avenger from S&F. It focuses mainly on the monk's ki ability, which is similar to the spirtual side your talking about.

You could always look through oriental adventures if you want THE stuff on monks, don't have it on me now though so can't give suggestions.

Thanks for the reply! A bud suggested the Red Avenger as well which did look pretty interesting.

I'm going to check out the OA book at the local gaming shop. Hopefully, there's something in there that either "fits" or at least peaks my interest. If not, then I'm considering taking a few levels in fighter just to enhance my combat capabilities.

If you want the Monk/Psion cross, go to the Mind's Eye information on the WotC website. Two prestige classes in particular: Diamond Warrior and Mindknight. Mindknight especially seems like what you want; at 5th level they become entirely immune to mind-affecting spells.

Just remember, by the book the fighter's BAB doesn't stack wtih your unarmed BAB. If your dm doesn't use that rule, then go for it!!

I also think the Henshin Mystic from OA would be right up your ally, maybe even more so than the Shintao, who is sort of a paladin-ish monk. Though I do like both of them.

Thanks again! A couple of the guys (including DM) picked up the OA book over the weekend. I think what I'm really looking for is the kinds of things that I'm used to seeing (from Kung-Fu flicks) that a Shaolin monk can do. It's more of a combo of the Henshin, Shintao, Red Avenger, et al classes.

My character has no affinity for magic and is reluctant to use magic items unless they offer some form of protection or combat increase such as a weapon. That's why I'm having such a hard time at finding "the right class". I was going to take a few levels of fighter but maybe staying with monk is the right class??

If you're already contemplating levels of fighter, then Shintao Monk is for you - not only do you get smite evil (as per paladin), divine grace and some other cool abilities, you also get a bonus feat at every second level - and it all combines with your monk levels for unarmed combat.
