Why are people thinking Flurry of Blows is no good? It is in your best interest to use flurry of blows over iterative attacks as a monk. You get a better chance to hit and more attacks. No, it won't be no par with a fighter or ranger. But it will be on par with a paladin against non-evil creatures and when he doesn't smite. The Pathfinder Flurry of Blows is much better than previous editions.
An amulet of mighty fists doesn't prevent a monk from having a weapon made of a certain material, and lacking that material is only a "pretty large disadvantage" in a rather limited number of circumstances that aren't any more disadvantageous to the monk than any other character.
Yes. You can build a weapon. That's an ok solution at lower levels. And at higher levels you do enough damage to punch through DR and still hit like a truck. So that will have to do for now.
Monks are sort of like arcane casters. You start slow and become a nightmare at later levels. At lvl 7 I'm still way behind the rest of the melee fighters in damage output, though I could probably take any one of them in one on one combat with grapple. My CMD is insane. Far better than any other class. That is pretty nice.
