Monk w/hands full question

And no other class has these such restrictions. A fighter doesn't loose any attacks if he decides to kick someone while holding anything.

Is this true? I mean theres all those rules about shields and which weapons you can use while holding a shield. Basically you cant fight hardly at all as a Fighter while you have a torch and a shield, right? "I put down my lantern and draw my sword", etc.

I'd certainly assign a penalty to a Fighter who tried to kick a foe while carrying a treasure chest in two hands. But, honestly, I'm not familiar with any special rules for kicking; he'd have to use Unarmed Strike and give up his regular attacks to make this kick? Is there a better way to do this?

As for the Monk, sure, he can use all of his body as a weapon, but fighting with one hand tied behind your back is still harder than not. If you hogtie the Monk, I certainly wouldnt want the Monk claiming he can still attack with his full bonuses, "Because my entire body is a weapon! I headbutt you!" ;-)

So its pretty clear there should be some penalty depending on how many limbs you have lost.

Say a monk has his or her hands full, a wounded comrade, keg of ale, important object being recovered, a ranged weapon or so forth. Anyway, what penalties to attack(s) would he/she suffer (obviously relying on kicks and such)

(my emphasis above)

Personally I wouldn't give a monk any penalties unless there were penalties from exceeding his weight allowance - for instance, most monks who were carrying a wounded comrade would be under a medium or heavy load (at least) and this would incur certain penalties. It also seems to me from p39, col2, para 2 that since a monk holding a non-monk weapon in the off hand cannot make a flurry of blows, that would extend to holding kegs, comerades, objects etc.

Cheers

He would make this kick one of his regular attacks. A 20th-level fighter could kick 4 times: with +20, with +15, with +10 and with +5 (+/- other bonuses or penalties).

I agree with Crothian in that there should be a difference between holding something delicate (like a Fabrege egg) & holding something not-delicate (like a weapon or torch).

IMO, there should be minor penalties for holding something like a crossbow; a harsher penalty would apply if holding something like a lantern. Similary, something in two hands (like a wounded buddy) is more cumbersome than something in only one hand.

These penalties could apply to all classes, but the effects would vary.

(P.S. I'm not sure about the spelling for "Fabrege," so leave me alone. :o )
