Monk?

Now, I know that the monk is out for the PHB, but how long will we be waiting until it comes back to us?

I know that many of my players, as well as myself, really enjoy the monk due to its fountains of flavor.

IIRC it is slated for PHB2. When that is due I don't know but hopefully well within a year of the core3 release, we shall see.
I hope the release it soon, lots of players will want to play monks, barbarians, druids and sorcerers. Some even want to play gnomes and I always have a thing for my half-orc ftr/ass from ADnD

I'm thinking Martial Supplmenet, as "Races & Classes" pegs the monk as a martial striker. I think the next PHBs will introduce new power sources, not expand existing ones.

Wasn't it specifically mentioned that any Monk they made for 4e would be distinctly "Asian" in flavor?

Now, this doesn't NECESSARILY mean Oriental Adventures 4e. They probably had a lot of success with the 'asian' classes in the various splats. But it would be cool to see....:)

"Races and Classes" has the following to say about the Monk.

"Through dedication and practice, monks become supreme martial artists, capable of great feats of speed and strength. What others accomplish with magic and steel, monks can do with only their bodies and minds."

also

"In battle, no one is faster or more agile than the monk"

"execute rapid manouvres that send his opponent flying, knock it to the ground or stun it into submission. A monks defences are also strong ... avoid attacks, and he can channel his ki to heal his own wounds."

"The monk class is still on the horizon"

"Since the monk relies upon mobility, the class will likely be a striker, putting down high damage with unarmed attacks".

Not much that you wouldn't guess from the existing monk, and no hints about 'when'.

I wonder if they will do a specifically 'orientally themed' book, like the 3.0e Oriental Adventures? I don't know how well received that was.

Yeah I got the 3E version, I loved 2E. Pity I didn't read the amazon list properly, for some bizarre reason it was set in the book of 5 rings (or whatever) world. Not only did the novels really suck IMO, but the world was so far from the raw it was hard to use the book for another campaign. I really hope that the do a OA book and that it is set in Kara-Tur or something else a little bit more (although it sounds bad) generic

It says Striker, but not Martial. My thinking is that it will be a Ki Striker. If I am right that means we can expect to see it in about June 2009.

EDIT: Or maybe 2010 if PHB2 is Primal, Shadow & Psionic.

glass.
