Hi!

If you monkey grip a two handed sword in one hand, does each point of power attack so spent deals 2 additional damage points if you score a hit?

Thanks for your thoughts

I'd say no because Monkey Grip allows you to wield a two-handed weapon as a one-handed weapon for a -2 penalty (at least that's the LG conversion of the feat). I'd say you'd get the same bonus as if Power Attacking with a one-handed weapon.

Description of power attack:

POWER ATTACK [GENERAL]
Prerequisite: Str 13.
Benefit: On your action, before making attack rolls for a round, you may choose to subtract a number from all melee attack rolls and add the same number to all melee damage rolls. This number may not exceed your base attack bonus. The penalty on attacks and bonus on damage apply until your next turn.
Special: If you attack with a two-handed weapon, or with a one-handed weapon wielded in two hands, instead add twice the number subtracted from your attack rolls. You can’t add the bonus from Power Attack to the damage dealt with a light weapon (except with unarmed strikes or natural weapon attacks), even though the penalty on attack rolls still applies. (Normally, you treat a double weapon as a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. If you choose to use a double weapon like a two-handed weapon, attacking with only one end of it in a round, you treat it as a two-handed weapon.)
A fighter may select Power Attack as one of his fighter bonus feats.

It doesn't say that the weapon must be held in two hands, but I understand your point of view. You are probably right.

Thanks.

Reading the description of Power Attack again for the first time..

I see where it's ambiguous.. I'd say that yes you would get 2 for 1 damage vs penalty with the weapon if you're usisng it two handed of course, because for your character that's a one-handed weapon not a two-handed weapon.

No, no, no! Not in 3.5. It's a two-handed weapon, that you're using in one hand.

"Two-handed weapon" has nothing to do with how many hands you use to hold it. It's a measure of the absolute size of the weapon.

A longsword held in two hands is a one-handed weapon, and a greatsword monkey-gripped in one hand is a two-handed weapon. The greatsword held in one hand gets a +4 bonus on Disarm checks because it's a two-handed weapon, and the longsword held in two hands gets no bonus because it's a one-handed weapon.

Hasn't 3.5 done a great job of clearing these little confusions up? :)

How's the Bastard Sword work by that logic? If you don't have Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Bastard Sword it can be used as a two-handed martial weapon.

No, it can be used two-handed as a martial weapon... not as a two-handed martial weapon.

The first refers to how you hold it. The second defines its size for the purpose of certain opposed attack rolls, etc.
