Monks and DR/epic

Super_Nerd

First Post
Hello,

Our group is nearing lvl 18 and we have a monk in the group.
He told us he is going to switch guys becuase monks can't bypass epic DR without spending like 2 million gold on some bracers that change that give him magical damage on his hands (I think thats in the MoF but not sure). So how does a monk get epic lvl hands without spending 2 million gold... if there is even a way to do so.

Well thanks guys hope this made sense =)

Quite simple.

Get the Improved Ki Strike [Epic] feat. In the 3.5 conversion guide, this feat allows monk's unarmed strikes to be treated as epic magic weapons for the purposes of bypassing damage reduction.

Har har. What is he going to switch to anyway? Every other class ALSO has to spend two million gp if they want to get an epic weapon.

Heh, touche.

The funny thing is that the Monk has the cheapest option to penetrate Epic DR -- all they have to do is pick the correct feat. However, other fighting classes only have "Penetrate Damage Reduction" which only allows you to bypass one material (e.g. adamantine, cold iron, or silver) but not epic.

For them, they still need to churn out millions for a +6 weapon.

hm

Anyone can buypass epic damage reduction for a low price of 200,000.

Step one: +4 weapon.
Step two: Put six bane enhancements on it.

That should cover a lot of epic encounters. Gating in solars should cover the remaining ones.

Nope. IIRC, a weapon is considered epic if it has a general +6 enhancement to attack and damage on it (hm, at least I'd rule it so). Gating in solars will cost the caster 1000 XP in most cases ;)

What is a "general" +6 enhancement?

A +4 bane weapon used against an appropriate creature type becomes a +6, and thus cuts through epic DR.

At least that's how I understand it.

p.s. Yep, summoning solars ain't as cheap as it used to be. Damn these increased long distance summoning rates..
